    IDE controller for windows 8.1

I need to get some data from an IDE hard drive and my motherboard only has sata ports. I am trying to use a SIIG SC-PE4A12 pci contoller card which has 2
    IDE connectors.
The card seems to detect the hard drive but before windows starts it says it is installed as "81h" and nothing shows up in windows.
I looked in device manager and it shows the controller card as a RAID controller and has the yellow warnings saying the drivers are not installed. I installed the drivers
from SIIG's website but they didn't list any for windows 8 and nothing helped.
Has anyone been able to get a card like this to work for windows 8?

    boot a linux live disk.
you will waste a lot of time trying to use "the devil's operating system"

if anything, it would have been better to try an ATA to USB adapter.

You could try the driver for the SC-PE4B12 but failing that, what stj said or hirens boot cd and use minixp then the drive you have could be loaded and access to the card/drive possible. Maybe

Alternatively you could pick up one of these adapters. I know a couple people who got the exact adapter and it's worked fine for that.

I don't use linux and I really had in mind to keep the IDE drive for data storage with my SSD drive but looks like I can't do it with this card.
I tried the SC-PE4B12 drivers with no luck and SIIG doesn't answer their support e-mail so
          guess I'll try something else.
          Thanks for replies.
