To avoid the Microsoft Security Essentials orange icon and nag, don't install kb2949787, uncheck and hide it.
If you already installed kb2949787, uninstall MSE and reinstall it. and the nag will go away
Yes I know we should be using other o.s. antivirus. but for now...
