Somewhere there's a photo of 4-6 OCZ SSDs with circuit boards that are mostly charred. The owner sent them back to OCZ and the power supply back to Corsair. Corsair gave him a test report full of measurements and even photos but OCZ refused to even examine their SSDs.

That's 1 of the 2 update methods that the MSI forum moderators warned against using, the other being the one built into the BIOS (M-Flash). Apparently the closet thing to anything safe is flashing from DOS, and even then you have to use only a USB flash stick.

Never had any problems with the Windows utility. I don't care what the forum moderators say but if they advertise the tool and make it available for download it should be usable, and in my past experiences with MSI it has worked just fine.

          Asrock rx570 - sam001.009 - secure memory validation failure
          by gsegpitd
I'm trying to diagnose my Asrock Phantom gaming D Radeon RX570 8G which produces an error 43 upon loading Windows drivers.

"./tserver -boardtest=quickmfg" fails with message "sam001.009", which implies this is a "secure memory validation" failure.

I can't seem to find any useful information regarding this failure, or this "secure memory" in general, on my own and am now under the assumption the gpu bga itself will need replacement (which is somewhat beyond my capabilities/comfort zone).

          Does anyone have any further...

TVs vs Computer Monitor Reliability & Failure Rate
          by nobbnobb1
Anecdotally, it seems to me that TVs fail much more often than computer monitors judging from personal experience and looking at the classified where people are getting rid of broken/malfunctioning TVs all the time.

So I'm just wondering if this is the case? Is there something inherent in the design of monitors that makes them more reliable? I would've thought they'd be operating under more severe conditions than a TV. For a typical family, a TV may only be on for a few hours every day. Whereas a monitor could be on 8+ hours, along with countless power cycles turning on/off as power...

What IC does AsRock usually use to make the PWM signals for GPU fans ?
          by MasterCap
I have an AsRock Taichi 7900xtx, and the minimum fan speed is way too high at 1000rpm, and thats with it's Quiet BIOS switch on, and me setting the fan profile as low as it goes, while on.

Now 1 thing I could do is just make some circuit to put in between the fan the the GPU, and leave the fan on all the time, but anytime the GPU is sending the PWM for min speed, I'll just send something lower and quieter.

But does anyone know what how AsRock usually sends the PWM to the fans on GPUs and mobo's? Is it from the MCU that's often near the 12V inputs and fan jack ? Or is...
