    Gigabyte 965P-DS3P VRM MOSFET heatsinks

On a Gigabyte 965P-DS3P board, there were outlines and mounting holes for heatsinks on the VRM MOSFETs, but the heatsinks were not fitted. VRM MOSFET heatsinks were fitted on a higher end board.
I am planning to overclock, so I believe I would need the VRM MOSFET heatsinks.
Where can I buy those heatsinks in Australia?
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

I am not too sure where you can get them from in Australia. You should try searching for them in general electronics sites. Sites like:

    http://www.rsaustralia.com/ - RS Components
    http://au.farnell.com/ - Farnell InOne
    http://www.dse.com.au/ - Dick Smith Electronics
    http://www.jaycar.com.au/ - Jaycar Electronics

The top two stores should have them but when I was searching for capacitors, I quickly found out that they have top stuff with top prices! Went to RS Components to get capacitors, it is the only place that I have been to that stock $250 diagonal pliers and $500 multimeter's and all sorts of other expensive tools.

Just checked the websites. They all have what you are looking for. Dick Smith only has 5 different varieties. Jaycar has around 25. RS Components have 34 varieties and Farnell has 334 results under Semiconductor heatsinks.

These heatsinks are not very useful as they touch the plastic part of the MOSFETs. Most of the heat goes through the bottom to the PCB.

In fact that is the whole point, MOSFET heatsinks are supposed to be mounted on the 'all metal side'. In short, the PCB is acting as the primary heatsink. You are correct thou, it would be difficult to find suitable heatsinks for these MOSFETs. I have tried looking at pictures of motherboards with those huge heatsinks but can not see the MOSFETs at all. I am unsure whether they are mounted differently on the actual motherboard, or whether the heat sinks go over the silicon part of the MOSFET.

Actually just found a web page of an ASUS board with those huge heatsinks, the web page has plenty of pictures, even ones with the heatsinks taken off. It is now confirmed that those huge MOSFET heatsinks touch the silicon part of the MOSFET.
