Yea, I kinda was hoping to hold on to my old Eizo CRT 21" monitor for another 5 years or 50...
Never really seen a LCD in _any_ price range I have liked... Was reading the reviews at Tom's Hardware Displays section (they make really good display reviews...) and have come to the conclusion that if I am going to buy something I will like it will cost allot of money :/
I want high native resolution, which kinda rules out the 19 inchers, which is a shame because the ViewSonic VP930 would probably fit me quite well, but it's only 1280x1024...
So I've been looking at the monitors which supports 1600x1200, I'm not too big a fan of wide screen. Dunno if it's me being old school and thinking it's for movies or because the best marketing gimmick they have come up with is that it's great for Excel, yawn! (The other reason is that I like the monitors native resolution to be something that is supported by most games, old games too if I wanna play them... Like who last saw 1680x1050 as a resolution games are made for? Sure it's changing but there are other issues too, biggest one being that most of the wide screen monitors are lower quality than their 4:3 brothers... (as seen in the reviews by Tom's...)
But now I've hit a small snag here because Tom's have not reviewed many large (i.e. 20"+) monitors to talk about... So I feel I'm in the dark about what I'm looking at...
Another issue is the pixel defect warranty, when that is taken into account the list of manufacturers becomes really small. Because I just can't stand dead pixels...
Which brings me back to Eizo
But I just don't know if their monitors are good for gaming... One thing is good though, they don't lie about their specs, unlike all other manufacturers!
I've been eyeing the Eizo Flexscan S2000, but at 915$ I'm not so sure about just buying it in the blind... What if I don't like it...
There is like a gazillion different LCD monitors to choose from, this is such a mess, and when you read Tom's reviews you realize that there are allot of monitors out there which aren't worth crap!
I did find another monitor that looks ok, Samsung 20" LCD Syncmaster 204B. It's 565$...
But yet again reviews are scarce, and user opinions are IMO not that much to go after. Atleast when they say something is good, if they say it's shit it most likely is though
