    Anybody still using 800x600

I am interested for web design purposes whether anybody is still using 800x600 or less whether at home or work/school.

Usually only for corporate sites i design for 800x600 but it is rather limiting especially if many users are using tfts at default resolution, so i usually design for 1024x768.

Anyway if you are using 800x600 or less please post here.

Yes, on the monitor I have connected to my servers, it only supports 800x600 :P

It also has the letters "UT" burned into the CRT; it has been used as a login/out screen at a workplace, letters UT stand for OUT in Swedish :P

And my answer is no, nobody uses 800x600 anymore ;-)

actually i have seen quite a few offices to still have 15" crts with 800x600 (and pretty shitty computers also), also some of the old farts like low resolutions. I remember one client preferred 640x480 cos he was half blind so i had to design his website for that hahahhahaha......

My notebook has only 800x600 LCD panel. And there are some older machines with 15" monitors at work.

Actually, I'm using 15" monitor at home too - but a better one with 1024x768@85Hz. These at work with 800x600 are either older types or total crap - they can do 1024x768 but only @60Hz which is unusable.

                Re: Anybody still using 800x600

800x600 is pretty common on old laptops. Some P3 laptops have that screen resolution, and it's more common on P2 and older machines. Since laptops are convenient, and new ones are expensive, old laptops tend to stay in use for a long time. That doesn't apply to me though, my laptop is 1024x768.

Myself, I have been using 800x600 a lot lately because I had to temporarily revert to an old PCI video card. That's an abnormal situation though.

                  Nope, 15" at 1024x768, 17" at 1152x864 or 1280x1024...

I think a lot of blind/extremely new users might be on 800x600 though.

If your surfing the web frequently, i would say it is impossibly to do it with 800x600 without getting mad.

I have used an 21"crt with 1024y 768 and now using 17"tft with 1280x1024 and it is mutch sharper than with my old 21crt, wich probably suffered some cap aging and thus would have been required a focus adjustment for 1280x1024.

I would say 1280x1024 is now standard for a good web experience.

                      Re: Anybody still using 800x600

I still have a P166 machine that I occasionally use for playing old DOS games that don't run properly under XP. Windows 95 is installed on there as well, and for some reason, the graphics card can't do 1024 by 768 in anything more than 256 color mode. So I either have to suffer the agony of changing palettes in 1024 by 768 mode, or go down to 800 by 600 - where the 64,000 color mode works fine (card doesn't have a 16 million mode).

I also have an LCD TV mounted on the ceiling above my bed, so I can watch TV in bed easily while lying down. Sometimes I play Flash games on a laptop connected to the VGA port of that TV, and to get the Flash game window to be properly visible from a distance, I reduce the resolution to 800 by 600.

But no, I try and avoid 800 by 600 whenever possible

I use 1280x800x85hz on my 24" Sony, I think Topcat has the same kind of monitor. On my old 21" I used 1024x768x85hz. But I'm nearsighted as hell

Hijacking the thread a bit but I saw something funny in the above graphs, there are many resolutions which are not 4:3

I.e. from the top: 1280x1024, 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050. These do not give the result 1.33 when divided so they are not 4:3...

                                The next 3 resolutions are though: 1152x864, 1280x960, 1400x1050

How come they are so popular, are wide screen monitors really that common or do so many ppl really set their res wrong?

I used to use 1152x864 on a 19" monitor, using 1280x960 for Windows now on my current 21" monitor, 1600x1200 or 2048x1536 when gaming. I tried those resolutions in Windows but I can't take them, guess it's time for a new eye checkup

A lot of laptops have widescreen monitors these days. Also if you look at larger LCD monitors (say 24 inch), I think you will find most are widescreen.

I like it for DVD watching, but that is because there is no television set in my house. I hear most people don't watch DVDs of their PC, so I don't know what drives the popularity overall.

I haven't quite figured out why 1280x1024 is so popular. It's hardly different from 1280x960, and 960 is 4:3... I'm on 1280x1024 right now, though, since my video card screws up the display size if I change resolutions (ie, I have to resize/shape the monitor's picture) and the few games I play don't offer 1280x960.

                                          Hi guys,
I would like advice on a problem.

I have another Gigabyte GTX 1050 2Gb gpu with problem.
GPU is working good trough out display port but via hdmi does not get image.
Trough out DVI the gpu take image but only 800x600 resolution.

Anybody can help to how start the problem solving?

                                          Tanks in advance.

Gigabyte RTX 2070 WindForce No RGB, USB-C and E43 after Short on PCIE_12v

                                          Hey guys,

So i got this RTX2070 Super from Gigabyte for cheap and the reason i actually got it in first place is, because it initially had a full short on PCIE_12v, so my plan was to basically feed some juice in it on my test bench and see what gets hot using my thermal camera. This would have potentially been a quick repair, however things didn't actually work out quite as planned.

Whenever i hooked up one of my lab power supplies to my testboard to feed the 12v rail, well, even tho i had it current limited at 12v, the charged capacitors actually blew the 10A Fuse...

                                          Difficult question for 17MB82s
                                          by joker250003
I have a 40'' TV using the cursed 17MB82S board and my problem was the "red light flashing". I found a pre-used 17MB82S near me and i decided to buy it from e-bay. When i put it on the TV worked just to find out the picture was upside-down and the resolution 800X600 or lower. Then i checked the card i bought and it wasn't exactly the same in fact it was for 42'' TV. I couldn't solve this even from the service menu. Anyone knows if i can reprogram the board to work with my 40''. set?

                                          screen resolution vs monitor size
                                          by doudou
I have recently downgraded from a 18inch to a 17inch screen, and have noticed that the webpages are too big for my 17inch - that I have to scroll across pages to read. It never happened to me when I was on my 18inch, with resolution set on 800x600.

The only option I have is to adjust my resolution, changing from 800x600 to1024x768..but I'm so used to working on 800x600 resolution and dont really feel comfortable with smaller desktop icons and font size.

As I want to stay on 800x600 without having to scroll, I was wondering if exchanging for a 19inch would help?
