every time i get some error on my ubuntu12.04 just get the cd or stick and reinstall again it's much easier than dealing with the problem that is on my end of thinking, i have my important stuff in an out extra hard drive and some times i download to it as important files come in and that's it,no worry about it.

i don't, usually. it lasted long enough to get my home dir(s) and then quit. it sucks

UPDATE: the HDD that it got copied too is acting up as well, but not in the same way the sata link becomes so slow that a hard reset is sent to the disk, what this means i don't know but running tests on the disk show its fine.
UPDATE2: the 12v rail was not providing enough power because of a large cooling fan. unpluged the new drives are fine pluged in the drives error out. why?

If a fan was putting your power supply out of regulation, the power supply is probably not going to last long.

Get rid of the psu / fan.. Spinrite (if you own it) or try Hiren's 15.2 I think it has a new program (not sure on liscensing) for hdd testing/sector recovery.. Similiar to spinrite..

that doesnt sound too bad... i run one of those with a Q6600 and a 9600GT... seems to work fine
one of the dell OEM ones right?

What are you using to measure those voltages with?

cen-tech digital multimeter, battery voltage @ 8.97v(new battery) tested on a precision bench PSU set to 12.46v, the meter reads 12.45v so the meters in good nic.

Good. Glad to see someone else not trust motherboard monitoring of volts. Sometimes the built-in compensation networks of those things screw up.

actually my mobos volt monitor is pretty good it reported 12.77

well your meter got 11.74, your motherboard got 12.77 or was that a typo

actually my mobos volt monitor is pretty good it reported 12.77
