So after owning an ancient StreetPilot III for years I finally try to use it now that I've moved home. Looks like the last owner did not upload maps for this particular area.
No worries. I'll just find Garmin's software and replace maps.
Nope.
Garmin's software, Street Pilot: North America, requires a key not only to activate the maps on the CD but also a serial generated from the unit ID of your GPS. If you don't have this Garmin can get you a new one for a hefty fee.
Well, I'm sure there's a way to do that, what about the software though? Can I use their latest version?
Nope.
Somewhere around version 8 then also began releasing the "NT versions" of their maps which are not compatible with the older systems. If you own a "Non-NT" GPS you need Street Pilot: North America 8 (not the lack of "NT" in the name) or older.
Okay, so I'll talk to Garmin about ordering a copy of their older software.
Nope.
Garmin only holds back one version of their software so I'm SOL from them for everything but activation keys.
That being said I'm curious if someone might have a copy of the disc between version 4.01 and 8. Garmin won't care about the disc flying around so long as you don't include any keys.
