Yeah, wait at least as long as it took to burn the disc. That's what I have heard. Longer is nice too.

I've had bad luck with burners. Last fall I went out and got like 7 of them (far beyond my needs, I don't know what I was thinking). I have used a couple of them for like 15 burns each, no problem at all.

I think I just had bad luck years ago. (And I still have a SCSI CD-R/RW and a PCI SCSI card if I need it.)

Doesn't it take much longer to burn the DVD than for the laser and its power circuitry to heat up completely?

I've had only one DVD drive fail, a BenQ DQ-60 (TEAC design), but it was its CD portion that went bad, not its DVD part.

They should be designed not to burn out the laser diode. But, I've never seen one with a proper heatsink for the diode. I dont know how much power the diode is run at.

PS5 Disc Not Supported/ Disc Not Recognized Board Num: EDM-020
          by Junior††

          Good Afternoon fellas,

          Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
          - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
          - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
          - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

          Question:
          I...

my question is: why doesnt the board start know without this chip.... worked myself through the boardview but i can´t understand...

Vaio DA0HK1MB6E0 MBX-247 Burning any EC
          by ignacio.ino27
          Hello to all.

I have this Sony Vaio QUANTA HK1 DA0HK1MB6E0 MBX-247 that is burning the NUVOTON EC when you connect it to power supply.

          1) The +3vpcu line is going to a direct short after connecting the motherboard to power supply.
          2) I discovered the EC NUVOTON was shorted. After removing it the short gone out on that line (+3vpcu) but... (If i quit the EC the 3.3v are pressent on +3vpcu because the shorted component was quited)
          3) There were no shorts after soldering the new EC NUVOTON. But after connecting the board to power supply the EC keeps burning...
