so instead of releasing a non-pae iso, they force people to a net install.

    Sucks for people without highspeed.

I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to ubuntu. The package support and rolling updates I <3, but ubuntu's stability and crappy unity interface not so much.

Even with that, they still prop themselves up as being so superior to XP/wintel.

Ever since 'buntu "sold out," they've only been whoring themselves...

Re: The error message means that your CPU does not support PAE extensions

I had pretty good luck with Ubuntu until the last two releases. I am using an Intel D865 board with 2 gig of memory. Using the on board video. Both Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 load great, but when I log in, all I get is the desktop background - no menu bar and no launcher. I have found several posts giving the "workaround" but so far none have worked. I also found a post that said that the Intel chipsets 845, 865, and 895 will not work. So I put a video card in the AGP slot and it still doesn't work. I can load and use Ubuntu 12.04 with no problem, but have not figured out a solution for using the 865 board.

There is a link on the page you linked to that gives solutions.

          http://www.webupd8.org/2012/05/how-t...n-non-pae.html

It seems Xubuntu & Lubuntu have non-PAE kernels. And, someone has made a non-PAE version of Ubuntu 12.04:

          https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...47/comments/84

          EDIT:

          Here's another How-To:

          http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11/how-t...n-non-pae.html

It didn't take much digging to find this info.

If this is a nVidia card, you have to edit the xorg.conf file:

            https://http.download.nvidia.com/XFr...ppendix-f.html

When configuring Linux video, the MythTV wiki has a lot of info:

            http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/XvMC#Configuring_xorg.conf

Also, make sure the BIOS is set to use the AGP card instead of the internal video chip.

            EDIT:

I don't find an AGPGART module on my system, so I don't believe it is included in Linux anymore.
