Where to get Nichicon HZ ?

Wait! I know there is a sticky in the faq about 'where to buy' but before you delete this thread hear my case!
None of those vendors have these caps. Either they dont have the series or sell them in bulk quantity (500+) only!

Can anyone tell me where I can find these caps in retail ? I am looking for some 470uf, 220uf, 100uf in 10v to 25v range. Maybe 10 in total.

Nichicon HZ. but HC, HM, HN will do too.

    Chemicon PS, PSA, PSC.

These have ESR in the order of 10milliohm (for a typical 470uf/10-16v cap). If you know of any other similar brand/series that I could consider let me know.

These are for audio purposes. They will go in a SMPS in a dvd/cd player.

why in the name of God would you want HM or HN series>?? search the boards, you'll see hundreds of pictures of those vented heaps of garbage. Go with Rubycon, Panasonic, Sanyo or Samxon before ever touching Nichicon HM or HN.

Re: Where to get Nichicon HZ ?

I never see there is any Nichicon HZ retailers in the world till to now. It seems more difficult to get it, which compare with high grade polymers.

I must tell you there is impossible to get HZ with 470uF or below(little caps) by technical problem. Ultra low ESR caps always can't provide little caps.

Samxon GA is same grade is Nichicon HZ, you can cosnider by yourself.

D-K carries UCC polymer types, TH and SMT. See pages 1247 and 1248 in this catalog link. You can also get UCC KY and KZE series parts and Nichicon HE series parts from D-K; these will be lower Z than PW or LXZ series parts, though higher Z than HM, et al.

I dont claim to be an expert in capacitors and PCs but I really wouldn't put those capacitors (Nichicon HZ, H...) in a PC, let alone a PC power supply! because of their 'standard' endurance(life/hours) rating!! Guess what happens when they run 'continously' in a relatively hotter environment ?

Anyway, the psu already has Rubycon ZL. Its just that they cheaped out on the size/value(uf) of the capacitors. The player could use some help there so I am bumping up the values. I was all set to use Panasonic FM when I ran into these caps that were particularly very low esr so I thought about using them. Since I am replacing the ZL's anyway why not replace with something better. Too bad they are not readily available.

Any opinion on the Nichicon CS series btw ? I need one for the input cap - 220uf/250V.

Re: Where to get Nichicon HZ ?

I don't see a CS series in my 2006 Nichicon catalog. For snap-ins, the LS (standard), LN (smaller) and LG "ultra smaller") series are good.

Keep in mind that those 2000, 5000 and 10000 hour ratings are for operating at max temp and ripple current. Decrease either and the expected life goes up significantly (e.g. doubling for every 10C decrease in temperature). If you want a high life rating, you have to put up with higher Z and buy HD, HE, KZE, KY, KZH, FM, YXG, YXH, ZL and ZLH. In a server runing 24x7x52 in a wiring closet (or impeded airflow), I'd consider those series, but I am not a computer hardware techie.

Re: Where to get Nichicon HZ ?

Forget any of those ultra low esr caps for your application. If you need only 470uf or smaller and money is not an issue, go with Oscon solid polymer caps (e.g. from waifong). Their leads are made from OFC copper, wich should be familiar for sound purists. In any other way just drop in those realy great Pnnasonic FM ones, IMHO one of the best caps series atm. Long endurance and for that realy low esr (AFAIR far better than your ZL). I doubth that you will hear the difference, as those big caps are just to slow. There is a point, where eny exzes of lower esr can`t help anymore. For your application i assume this point far above the ESr of those FM caps. I fyou want to improve something at this point, you have to place some high grade tantallums or other high grad smd caps acap to the load. But to make this thing successfull, you habe to be an expert, to not make more harm than good.

PeteS, I couldn't find their catalog but here's what I am looking at - CS is on top -
                http://www.nichicon-us.com/english/s...ini/daia_c.htm

ZL's arn't bad though. I didn't check all values but 470/16v ZL's are pretty close their FM counterpart.

                ZL is second from top.

Doh! It's right there on pg. 144. Gotta check my glasses or something. Looks like the series is designed for ballasts - long rated life, high ripple current. Might be interesting for CCFL inverters for LCD displays. Probably overkill for P/S I/P lytics.

Sanyo's WX series looks similar to HD and KZE. HV is a 6000 hour series. For a SMPS for a DVD player that is likely to be with other warm equipment in a confined area, I would stay away from 2000 hour rated parts. Actually, PW, LXZ and FC might do quite well also, though they are somewhat higher Z than H-series Nichicon, KZ-series UCC and Rubycon parts.

If caps used in power supply, i suggest to use with long life rating caps, low impedance is not the most importance factor. Rubycon ZL is one of long life caps and reliable. I don't see there is any recapping in need.

Topcat, can you source Rubycon ZLG for me ?
Big Pope, are those Samxons on your website the only ones you can get ? or can you get for me any samxon I want ?

Typically I am looking for 470uf, 220uf, 100-150uf, 10uf all in the 10v-25v range. It maybe not be more than 10-15 in quantity 'total'.
