    Washable keyboard

    http://www.logitech.com/en-us/produc...-keyboard-K310

    My parents need this.

It seemed like a good idea when I first saw it, but I don't think there should be a need for a keyboard that is easy to clean. I feel like people should take care of their stuff.

Every time I try to use someone's computer, the keyboard is packed full of food crumbs, drink residue, hair, drool, and various forms of human waste (yes, it is human).

Actually, I think my parents should have a normal keyboard with a cover so someone that actually washes their hands won't have to wait for the keyboard to dry.

Of course, the people who actually need to have some kind of keyboard protection probably wouldn't like the feel of a cover or a special sealed or washable keyboard.

There's my rant for the day. It sounds really confusing to me when I read it back. I need sleep.

I think the only differences are sealed edges on the membrane, drainage holes in the case, and a potted control board...

Also, take a look at the features section... "Functional and good-looking"...*shows keyboard in front of a badly drawn giant carrot*

Any ideas as to what that's supposed to be? (other than my new signature)

That looks to me to be a vase with some green leaves in it. I never for even a moment thought it was a carrot.

          ROFLOL!
btw you might not want to know what that "other human waste" is!
if i get a nasty kb at the shop it hits the can unless its something worth washing.

I have a rubber keyboard, it is flexible too, and can be washed!
I don't use it much though lol

              Re: Washable keyboard

I bought this a few weeks ago - I didn't buy it to use it in the shower,I keep things clean and tidy.

Anyway, the keycaps had shorter travel distance then my previous keyboard, the keyboard looks nice too and it was really cheap so I had to try it.

That being said I really like it.

Gabriel, since you bought it, could you please measure the USB cable?
                Thanks

Sure, the box says 1.8 meters but I measured 1.7 meters.

                    Re: Washable keyboard

I don't know if a washable keyboard or just a normal keyboard with a cover on it would be better. The washable keyboard might be nice in an area where keyboards get really dirty, but I think a normal keyboard with a cover might be better for a computer with multiple users where only a small fraction of the users actually gets the keyboard dirty. Those people could use it while it was covered, and everyone else would have a clean keyboard.

That is what I am trying to deal with now. I am looking at a new keyboard for a computer used by three people. One of them is clumsy, eats over the keyboard, and never washes her hands. The other two people can keep a keyboard clean and wouldn't want to wait very long for the keyboard to get cleaned. They are using an old Dell/Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse from 2003. The keyboard is so dirty that some of the keys don't work, and they're still using it. The mouse works okay, but two of the feet have been missing for years and the bottom is worn down. I am looking at this Logitech washable keyboard or a Microsoft keyboard with multimedia controls and a clear cover.

Some method for keeping the mouse clean might be good as well.

IDEA: Instead of washable keyboards, why not just have personal washable covers? That way everyone can bring their own cover and the keyboard would never get dirty.

If you get any old beige Dell QuietKey keyboards, save them! These things are such workhorses. 8 screws and the top part comes off. Put in the dishwasher or sink and give it a good scrub. Let dry for a day and assemble back together. Functions like new.

Ugh. I really dislike short travel distance. Sure it helps me type faster, but also with lots of typos.

                              ^ I think so.
Is the model# RT7D5JTW or similar?

The slightly newer ones with the rounded tops are not that good. But these older ones are amazing, especially for gaming. I love the key response.
