Didn't stick out in bold as a new thread.

Well if you leave the monitor off during the boot up into windows or linux, the O/S will assume there is no display attached because it probe for EDID and didn't get a response. Newer monitors have EDID on the standby voltage to fix this issue.

Thanks for your explanation,my display monitor is a Cob Hd 15" TV with VGA and HDMI i have it connected to VGA and the 36''Sony with DVI.
i guess there is no EDID for this cheap display,
well i have to remember to turn on the monitor prior to the pc or in case i forget just reboot it. thanks anyway.

Re: black screen upon turn on pc with monitor off?

What type of video card do you have? I have a nVidia card on Linux Mint, and the nvidia-settings program will give me an EDID. It will output it in either ASCII or binay, but I haven't figured out what to do with it after I get it.

There also is a Linux program that will fetch your EDID, and output some settings that you would insert into your xorg.conf file. When I ran it on mine, it gave me an error:

            http://maxolasersquad.blogspot.com/2...formation.html

You may first need to create an xorg.conf file. To do that you first need to shut down X:
            Code:
            sudo service mdm stop
This will shut down the X server. If you don't get a login prompt, switch to a different terminal with this key combo:

            Ctrl+Alt+F1

You can use F1 thru F8. Then login and create a xorg.conf file with this command:
            Code:
            sudo Xorg -configure
This will create a file in your home directory named xorg.conf.new. Start the Xserver again or just reboot. Then you can open your new file and add the info that get-edid gave you. You will need root privileges, so open it like this (from a terminal):
            Code:
            gksu gedit ~/xorg.conf.new
After adding the new info, save and close it. Then copy it to the correct folder with this command:
            Code:
            sudo cp ~/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Restart the Xserver again or reboot. If the desktop doesn't start, then it rejected your changes. You will have to deactivate your newly-created xorg.conf file. Do this from a terminal by renaming it:
            Code:
            sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
            Then restart X again:

            Code:
            sudo service mdm start
            More info on get-edid:

ASUS X201e - The screen does not turn on and remains black
              by andrestecno
              Hi everyone,

I'm dealing with an intermittent problem and can't find a solution. Sometimes my notebook starts up and everything works fine. However, after I turn it off and try to turn it on again, the motherboard starts, but the screen stays black. It seems like the notebook freezes and a green LED with a light bulb icon stays on.

If anyone has the service manual or any suggestions on how to fix this issue, I would greatly appreciate it.

              Thanks in advance!

              Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

              Hi everyone,
I have this strange behaviour with Acer Aspire E5-574-52RH, i5 6200U, intel graphics, DA0ZRWMB6G0 Rev G, model ZRW.
Laptop came in for a SSD upgrade, took everything apart to install the SSD.
Everything started after modifying BIOS settings to boot UEFI instead of Legacy.
Laptop works fine, i installed windows 10 and drivers/updates, everything works ok(when it works)
The black screen problem is random, maybe 5 out 10 times, laptop remains with the black screen, no image

              Symptoms are:

Black screen on Sony 65x90ch (65x900h from Costco)
              by Adam Russ
Weird issue with this tv. Was streaming to the from a computer when it stopped working and the screen went black. Ever since then there has been. o image. Just a black screen. The audio works and yhe backlights do come on when it's powered on, it's just a black image. It presented like a backlight issue. So I finally got around to getting new backlights and a backlight tester. All of them test the same as the good backlights with the same voltages. There are no blinking lights. Just the white led at startup and when buttons on the remote are pressed signaling it's receiving from the remote....
