The PCI one has YMF724E-V. It also has an ST TEA2025B Audio amp and a sigmatel STAC9704T AC '97 chip. Caps are g-luxon. One cracked solder joint, repaired.

Sounds good (pun intended?). Bring it with you on that trip if you're coming this way .

I don't work on other peoples' computers anymore, as I don't need "the attitude." Don't wanna pay to fix it right once? Want to ignore my advice/experience on browsers/security/etc? Fine. Keep paying dork squad to make it worse. Keep imagining it's "a better deal."

        Sorry to hi-jack.
I heard recently that the computer from my mother's long time friend, that I spent hours cleaning Windows XP last summer since it was barely usable, getting it running perfectly and setting up everything, then explaining how she can keep it running like this...doesn't work right anymore.
She sent it to a "professional" for whatever reason, she didn't want to "annoy" me again with her computer (she paid me, and that was not annoying), he changed the free antivir with a non free AV, that is now outdated and doesn't do it's job since you're supposed to pay for it, and probably other problems. I haven't had the computer in my hands but I was told I should check it out...
I don't know what kind of professionals people around me are seeing, but they always seem to have more problems after...

          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

any suggestions? (note that i am not spending $50 on a 3m board)

          AVR-2802 no audio, chip questions
          by MasterCap
I do some hobby repairs mainly of my own junk, and I don't know much programming level repair/mods.

I got the AVR-2802 over the weekend, sold as working of course, and it worked for 1 night, using EXT. IN 5.1CH jacks, then after power down, the audio never came back. I've reset it, and get nothing on EXT IN or PHONO, despite having everything set right, hooked up right. I can hear lots of relays work tho.

I just want it for 5.1CH analog inputs , for PC surround sound. I'm not worried about the video or most of the digital stuff for now.

          So far I've traced...

          UC3842 Power Adapter Blowing Fuse
          by Dannyx
Good day folks......wow this new layout is weird. It's like I woke up one day and I'm no longer on Planet Earth or something

Anyway....got this here power brick from a USB to SATA adapter which keeps blowing the fuse after I almost repaired it. The reason I even bother to fix a power brick (wall wart, whatever) in the first place is because this thing was really convenient to use: I'd just plug it and that's it. It's a dual output supply, for both 12v and 5v, which although I COULD easily obtain with a DC-DC converter from a standard 12v adapter, I thought I should crack open the...
