I need to get a hard drive enclosure so I can use an old hard drive for backups. I will be using a 3.5" IDE drive, but I might use a newer SATA drive in the future when the old 60GB drive gets full. Does anybody have suggestions for reliable drive enclosures that won't corrupt data or kill the drive?
Are there any good hard drive enclosures?

Re: Are there any good hard drive enclosures?
I've never experienced that with even the cheapest eBay china hard drive enclosures to be fair and I have quite a few.
It's generally the point you don't safely disconnect which corrupts the drive, that or not enough power on your USB bus, which won't be a problem for a 3.5" drive. -
Re: Are there any good hard drive enclosures?
I have 3 of these Rosewills for SATA drives (Don't know if they offer them in IDE)

and have used them without issue on USB and ESATA for the last couple of years. I chose them for price, cooling fan and room inside them. They might be a little unnattractive but they haven't killed anything of mine or customers yet... Touch wood. !
This one does both IDE and SATA but I don't own it.

its almost the exact same but branded by Sabrent. Not really a recomendation but its the same base manufacturer I think.Comment

Re: Are there any good hard drive enclosures?
Maybe one of the NewEgg Rosewill brand enclosures because they're among the few that always include UL approved AC adapters, and I know of 2 non-UL adapters failing; one caused no damage to the hard drive, another burned a 1/4" mark in the drive PCB.
I've seen USB/IDE/SATA combo adapters but not enclosures that support both PATA IDE and SATA, and I don't think many have enough room inside for a SATA-PATA adapter.Comment

by federalhouseHi everyone,
I'm in need of assistance with a Dell Precision 5820 Tower. The BIOS is locked with "Dell Security Manager," preventing access to the HDD-1 hard drive.
**Background:**
I recently purchased this Dell Precision 5820 Tower from a recycler who salvages equipment from abandoned office spaces. The computer was left behind by its previous owner and was password locked. Given that it can run Windows 11, I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade my setup.
**What I've Tried So Far:**

by tmcwA friend gave me his old PC case (with MB, and PSU), but no hard drive rails, he said he only used the 2.5" SSD spot inside, and used an external hard drive for data. He said that he'd have a look for the supplied rails, but I doubt he'll find them.
So I was wondering if case manufacturers used any type of standard 3.5" hard drive rail?
I'm used to the various Dell hard drive caddies or rails (and HP and Lenovo to a lesser extent), or el cheapo cases where you screw through the frame to fix the drive.
Now, the case is a CiT Gaming Case, and...-

i recently bought a new wd re4 2tb with 2014 datecodes. when i got around to testing it tho in victoria hd tester, the write speed was very slow at 14 mb/s with a 256 sector transfer size. when i increased the transfer size to 1024 sectors, the write speed increased slightly to 44 mb/s. read speeds and sector verify speeds were fine and at normal speeds.
so i just ass-u-med the drive's poor performance was due to it being an advanced format drive and i was using it on winxp. when i tried cloning my system disk to this wd re4 2tb drive and writing to it in linux, the write speed...-

by karto95Hello everyone,
I'm currently facing an issue with my Seagate hard drive that has a damaged logic board. I've obtained a replacement logic board from a donor hard drive, but unfortunately, I'm unable to recover the BIOS of the original board due to damaged firmware. I'm wondering if it's possible to make the hard drive work with this donor logic board.
I have a CH341A programmer, so I'm hoping that it can be useful in this situation. I've attached the BIOS file .bin of the donor board for reference.
If anyone has any suggestions or experience with this... - Loading...
