    Motherboard Swapping

    Hello, ..i need help on this. I have two pc both are Dell optiplex 745 but one is "Core 2 duo" and another one is "Pentium D". ..i want to swap motherboads only but not proccessor. IS IT SAFE to do that?

    Make sure the pentium D board had its BIOS updated to the newest version. The pentium D may have had a beefier cooler and PSU, if so, keep them with their respective CPU.

    Otherwise, I say give it a try!

      Core 2 duo and Pentium D both use the same socket lga775. Check with Dell to see if the chipset on the Pentium D board will support the Duo. Plus, as Ratdude said, the BIOS has to be able to recognize it too.

        Not all dell motherboards are built the same, but the 745 can take a PD or a C2

        I saw my old boss put a c2d 6550 in a Pentium 4 775 board. Silicon burning smell ensued

          I tried it, its working Fine. 3rd Day since swapped.. nothing going bad.
