    Burning ISO Hell!

I have been trying to burn the Linux Mint 13 iso's. I have tried burning MATE and CINNAMON desktops using K3B and the resulting DVDs refuse to boot. I checked the MD5 sums and they are correct. Since I previously burned the Ubuntu 12.4 LTS on the same computer, I conclude that my optical drive is
having trouble with the larger MINT files.

I discovered that Startup Disk Creator only works if you use the DVD you created as input. If you use the downloaded ISO, you get a USB stick that refuses to boot.

Any suggestions? Looks like the DVD-based ISOs are a lot more trouble than the CD-based ones. Easy answer is probably just to buy ANOTHER DVD R/W. PITA!!

I don't think imgburn is available on Linux...

Try cdrecord from the shell... You'll have to look up the syntax.

Brasero had always worked for me. Its what I use on my debian rigs (I use infrarecorder on my windows rigs).

          I burnt linuxmint-13-mate-dvd-32bit.iso to a DVD using Nero6 with my Pioneer DVR-108

          No problems booting it

I have a Mandriva disc that is a couple of years old. I downloaded it, then burned it (32-bit version 2010.2, IIRC). One of the files related to the install routine was broken, and it was put onto Mandriva's servers that way. (The MD5 checksum was correct on my downloaded file.)

Mistakes can happen on the ISO author's end as well. Rare, but it can happen.

(I tried extracting the ElTorito boot information and inserting a corrected file and then re-burning the disc, but it was too much trouble. Besides, I didn't know if the corrected file was really correct, because I don't know how Mandriva's install routine worked.)

I run KB3 under KDE and CDBurnerXP for Windows (it's free, Microsoft .Net is required).

One of the oldest newcomer mistakes that still happens to the experienced, is to burn an ISO to a disc as a file so instead of the ISO being written directly as a disc image you put the disc in the drive and you see the ISO itself as a single file in its root.

                  Hey....

Board as written in description was stuck at VGA LED. common Problem wit these type of bords.... tried all the "standard stuff" like resettin... reseatin.... found out the LED Controller MCU1 = IT8295FN-56A geting burning hot under the last PCI Slot.. now i desoldered it cause there were only 18 ohms at the caps arround.... another aorus x470 in working condition with similar part and nearly same layout had arround 280 ohms...

my question is: why doesnt the board start know without this chip.... worked myself through the boardview but i can´t understand...

Vaio DA0HK1MB6E0 MBX-247 Burning any EC
                  by ignacio.ino27
                  Hello to all.

I have this Sony Vaio QUANTA HK1 DA0HK1MB6E0 MBX-247 that is burning the NUVOTON EC when you connect it to power supply.

                  1) The +3vpcu line is going to a direct short after connecting the motherboard to power supply.
                  2) I discovered the EC NUVOTON was shorted. After removing it the short gone out on that line (+3vpcu) but... (If i quit the EC the 3.3v are pressent on +3vpcu because the shorted component was quited)
                  3) There were no shorts after soldering the new EC NUVOTON. But after connecting the board to power supply the EC keeps burning...

LG 65UQ8000AUB no backlight burning smell
                  by howardc64
Only 3 years old. Owner said backlight went out and burning smell. Didn't bother plugging in to check if had power LED. Just opened the TV rear and found shorted bridge rectifier diode on the backlight circuit on the PSU. SF26G (400V 2A super fast recovery rectifier link ) diode replace with SF26 (what I had on hand) Google AI said G = Green Components.

Burn looked pretty bad on the board but just was blackened carbon coating material. Scraped and cleaned off quite well and clean solder pad for the new diode.

Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon Artifact issue
                  by Topcat
I've been diddling around with Mint 19.1 Cinnamon...and have gotten a strange artifact issue.

It's being pretty mild there, many times its rendering windows illegible.

                  System specs are
                  X8DAL motherboard w 2x Westmere CPU's
                  24gb RAM
                  Quadro FX5800 4gb

I thought at first the GPU was simply bad, so I swapped it for another (I have several of these), result was the same. I then booted it into Windows 7, everything is hunky dory within Windows, but FUBAR with linux....I know, go figure....but its a bit annoying....
