    Sony Vaio t1xp Dust problems.

    Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio T1XP mini laptop. Its a great little thing and quick too, only 9 months old but has dust behind the screen. I am sure that the LCD screen is sealed but this dust moves around! I have attempted to get into it but no success. I used a low power c02 compressed air gun to try and dislogde it, again, no use.

Has anyone any idea how to fix this? Sony say that its not their responsibility (no surprises there!) and its starting to bug me a little.

    Any help or advice appreciated.

    Cheers,

Sony doesn't seem to mention that unit on there support site?
LCD's don't usually get dust IN them, unless it got in behind the polarized front layer.
The metal support frame is supposed to keep stuff out.
I've dissected many screens and it's very delicate work to get that frame off and back on succesfully, even more so on the smaller ones.

And then theres those dam finger prints.

how many particles are we talking about?

lcds in cell phones and pdas do have this problem, it is just not so common in large panels although it does occur. Assuming that this sony panel is of typical construction, I am thinking that either the seal with the metal frame is poor or the dust got inside during manufacturing.

either way, it is sony's problem and you should press them for service. you probably have a 1 year guarantee with possibility to upgrade to 3 years.

you could dissasemble the screen to remove the dust, it certainly will be a fiddly job and you may introduce more dust (and fingerprints if you dont wear surgical gloves). i would not recommend to do that yourself in warranty until you finally have no success with sony.

        Thanks for the advice.

There are 2 dust spots very visable about the size of a pin head, thing is that they move too!.

I will push sony to get it sorted, they should take responsibility.

        Cheer guys
