I got a what I thought was a pretty good snag on a couple NIB retail boxed genuine 'built by ATI' X1600 512mb video cards, one 8x AGP and one PCI-E, for 250 bucks for both. I stopped following the video card rage a long time ago since I'm not a gamer these days....... Just kind of curious as to where they rank in the annoying race to see who has the baddest video card... I've read a few reviews, and haven't read anything bad, but its always good to hear some first hand comparisons and testimonials....

Re: Whos up on their video cards??
I'm not. A 6800AGP is doing for now. You didn't get hurt on the buy. I just recieved two GeForce cards for repair in a trade for some 1/4"octagon mesh. Hope they can be saved.
This isn't real current but XbitLabs seems a decent review site.

The comparisons are anandtech.com are decent. Thier For Sale or Trade Forum is very active and will give an idea of worth along with eBay.

Re: Whos up on their video cards??
I'm not either, I must confess. The last game I played was Doom3 (couldn't resist that one!), and that was on my wife's machine... my own computer only has an onboard ATI Rage XL.Still, the kids sure are into games (little else in fact), and hence video cards are pretty much the key factor there.
Topcat: As far as performance comparisons are concerned, I always find this tool to be very useful:

Re: Whos up on their video cards??
Yes, they are both Pro models.
Last first-person shooter I played was Q3 arena and UT 2002... I started back in the original Doom days, on 486's, looking at lots of big pixels in 320x200............yuk! If some of my old school gamer buddies called and said we were having a Quake 1 LANfest, I'd be there in a second.... However, gaming has evolved into something that I can care less to participate in... Its mostly a bunch of zitty-faced high school kids who call themselves 'gamers' because mom and dad bought them a Dell.... Back in the day, it was a very elite group of knowledgable people, hence, it was fun. Nowadays, they think they are computer experts because they can install a plug -n- pray NIC and a game, and think they know it all........but when it comes to the fundamentals of a computer, they're lost... I still play a lot of Starcraft and Diablo2 to pass the time once in a while, but rarely play online unless I know the other people. Idiot kids that can't play an online game without cheating are scum in my book, and thats all I seem to run into, especially with Starcraft.... Example: several times this one has happened... Less than 30 seconds into the game, while I'm still making peons and basic buildings, a huge fleet of battle cruisers will come level my base in seconds.... What's the point?!? I'm good at SC, but not THAT good... LOL
/gamer rant
Thanks for the link. I think I did ok on these cards. The AGP one will go into my system, replacing my 9800 All-in-Wonder. I use the TV tuner constantly, so I ordered the ATI TV Wonder Elite to replace the AIW feature. The PCI-E card, I'll likely sell to eat the cost of both. Judging from Ebay listings and Pricewatch, its worth about $175 or so...<--- Badcaps.net Founder

Re: Whos up on their video cards??
Stretch I think has that card or the 256mb
A very good deal for both cards.
I have the Sapphire X1600pro agp 256mb. It's the same as the ati version but cheaper.
You got a good deal for the agp, but for the pci-e you can get better cards for about the same price. Like the 6800 GS. For you they're fine but a gamer playing the latest games they might not be happy. You still can play all the latest games just not at highest settings.
One cool thing is the AVIVO it can speed up video encoding if you use the ATI converter program.
Hope this helps

Re: Whos up on their video cards??
Here's a few pics of the AGP version, since its here at home with me. The other one is at the shop still, since I dont have a system here with a PCI-E slot....
Can't wait for the TV Wonder to get here so I can install all this and play around with it. I havent upgraded video cards in about 3 years.... its nice to get new toys once in a while<--- Badcaps.net Founder

just for the hell of it i started up doom that is still on an old notebook i use as a patern generator.
those demons look like moving brick walls on a crt that big!
btw i still do q3 with a neighbor.
esp when we want to annoy the ricer car punk next door to both of us.i have a sansui g33000 on mine and the neighbor has a marantz 2285b.
an hour of q3 with both rigs going full tilt and us wearing earplugs and shooters muffs teaches the punk to turn the boom boom crap off when he drives by!

Those cards with radial blowers seem to be particularly offensive as far as cheesegrater-like noise is concerned.
