    windows 2000 pagefile.sys

Maybe one of you old schoolers or people that have better google-foo then me. I have a system just 1 out of 200 so far that I can find that has no page file. It is not hidden i did a search in case somehow it ended up somewhere else and it looks like it is enabled. I changed the size of the page file and it didn't ask me to save and reboot which it normally does when you change the size or drive that it is on. I have a ton of these and this is the only system that I am having problems with it only has 2gb of ram and is running low on virtual memory.

in the drive root, create a new and empty .txt file. rename it to pagefile.sys. then go into the advanced settings like you normally would and make it the size you want. All windows needs to see is the filename being there and it will recreate the file on its own when you re-specify the swap file size. this has cured a few like that, both win2k and NT4.

ah yes NT 5.0, didn't catch on much, 5.1 (xp) did

same applies to NT 6. Vista is to 2k what 7 is to xp. So...we're waiting for windows 9 to be awesome

NT5 aka Win2k didn't catch on?! What rock are you living under? Win2k was one of the most stable and non-invasive OS's MS ever made. If there were a 64 bit version, I'd still be using it today.... its simple, clean, will run on garbage hardware, and you just can't kill it!

Agreed. It just needs to start up a bit faster

Windows XP starts faster because it delay loads so many things. You get to see a desktop before it's functional yet. Turn all that back off and it starts slower.

sorry I ment in general. It was used for businesses, but for home pc's most people used ME, which we all know and love

I actually did use a pirated 2k a loong time ago on my athlon t-bird 1.33. I did love it cause it was a major upgrade over 98

but you can't compare it to XP. Today, most businesses and a large number of people are still using XP, not 2k. Thats the reference I go by. I actually tried to put 2k on my dads laptop when he first got it in 2002, but the vga driver was non existant and non working in 2k. I tried to re-install xp with the cds that came with it, but HP messed up on the bios ID, and it said it was not the right HP laptop. my dad was sooo pissed off, and this was before I knew so much about isos and burning

I did love 2k though, it was actually slower then 98 but MUCH more stable, and effective with memory management too

Must people I know tried ME then backed up to Win98 until XP came out.
That's part of why Vista is called ME-II.
