    Speaking of dust bunnies..

Your computer is an air cleaner.
Should it have a heppa filter, would this be too restrictive?
    Ionization element? U.V., done that.

My own computers are clean even with pets running around, but every one thats brought to me is loaded with debris of some flavor.

When repairing the old round tube color TV's my boss told me to leave the dust alone, he claimed it had become part of the stability for the deflection
circuits. Sounded plausible at the time.

    Re: Speaking of dust bunnies..

My computers are pretty clean inside, but only because I regularly take the cover off and check for dust. There are pets running around everywhere, and I frequently find a bit of hair inside the machines

I certainly would not want my computer to get as dusty as some of the pics posted on here! To clean it, I use a soft brush to remove the dust off the components, and a can of compressed air for hard to reach places (like behind the motherboard and the fans).
It's possible to do your dusting while the PC is powered up, but I wouldn't recommend it. If nothing else, shutting down and switching off the PC will cause the fans to stop spinning and your brush won't get caught/blown in them
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

As soon as I open lid and see a mess, (bug turd, rat drop, bunnies, etc.) I have a spot outside all set up with a blower.
I look for any movement, spray ready ,then stand back and blow.
Amazed at stuff that flies out, paper clips, coins, rubberbands, found a lipstick in one.
Beatiful German customer thanked me, said she'd been looking for it.

Computer is clean, but the people who renovated the house figured the HVAC system was some kind of magical garbage disposal device. I fixed some leaks, now I have an Ultra Dust Shooter... lint, drywall dust and all manner of nastys flying everywhere...

Funniest thing inside a computer may just be finding a cd inside.
You know someone slipped it in between drives and couldn't understand why it didn't load, or come out?

IBM LTO 7 Tape Drive - Dust Sensors??
            by RetroComputingGrotto
I have a Quantum SuperLoader robotic tape library that uses an IBM LTO 7 tape drive which is constantly complaining that it needs cleaning. If you insert a cleaning tape, it performs the clean and resets the cleaning counter to 0 hours. It should only require cleaning every 50 or so working hours but after as little as just 1 hours use it requests cleaning. We've purchased a new cleaning tape along with new LTO backup tapes but that has not resolved the problem.

I have taken the library apart and can see no noticeable signs of dust inside. I have removed the tape drive from the...

            Macbook Dust-Gate Preventive Cleaning
            by howardc64
Just did this on my 2021 13" MBP M1. Dust-Gate design flaw still present. Depending on cleanliness of the operation environment (often eating while using MB is probably the worst). Periodic cleaning is probably warranted.

Note this is quite challenging effort. One misstep will damage the LCD flex and render it useless. So take it to someone more experienced if uncertain.

Dyson v15 problem with the dust detector board
            by PNI E.
Hi guys, I have a Dyson v15 that didn’t work. The battery blink 10 times. If i disconnect the cable of the dust detector board, the Dyson turn on but after some seconds stop because didn’t feel the flow of the air because I disconnected the bird sensor, if I connect the Dyson is death. I notice the big mosfet I think with 3 pins. If I check the mosfet I have a short circuit from the center pin ne the left pins…so I think that s the problem or I wrong? The problem I can’t understand what type of mosfet is….someone can help it s hard to find. New board...

Denon AVR E400 - Very unwell
            by Crystaleyes
            Hi everyone.

Hoping that someone here has some experience with the AVR E-Series

Came across this pristine but poorly unit in a 2nd hand HiFi shop the other day and thought I might learn something in nursing it back to life.

It had a sticker on it stating, "working but only in one (left or right) channel".
Speaking with the shop owner, he said that in fact it would occasionally work in both channels but he doesn't do repairs so it was selling 'as is'.

Anyway, when he went to show me all this, it refused to even start up. When plugged...

Xbox 360 Xenon Modern Capacitor Replacements
            by burom
I found my old Xbox 360 in storage and opened it up to see if there was anything that broke since it was built in 2006 (launch era Xenon revision, never red ringed, never been serviced) and didn't want to find out by releasing magic smoke. Upon moving the dust bunnies out of the way I was greeted by a bunch of capacitors with crud coming out of the top; it doesn't seem to have leaked onto the board so at least I have that going for me.

I'm posting here because I want to try to source replacement caps myself from Mouser or Digikey instead of braving eBay or waiting for places to have...
