Haha, panic buying hard drives 'because my life depends on them...'???
I despair.
As for cheaper drives early in the new year - I certainly won't be holding my breathSystem: HP xw6600 Workstation, 650W PSU | 2x Intel Xeon Quad E5440 @2.83GHz | 8x 1GB FB-DDR2 @ 667MHz | Kingston/Intel X25-M 160GB SSD | 2x 1TB Spinpoint F3, RAID0 | 1x 1TB Spinpoint F3, backup | ATI FireGL V7700 512MB | Sony Optiarc DVD +/-RW | Win 7 Ultimate x64 | 2x Dell UltraSharp U2410f | Dell E248WFPComment

Re: HDD price hike
The originally warranty must be at least 1 year and for electronics and long life stuff it's 2 years minimum.
However, the warranty basically means that if the hard drive has issue the store must take the drive and has - i think - up to 10% of the length of the warranty but no longer than 60 or 90 days to repair the product. If it can't be repaired, they must either replace it with equal or better product or, upon your request, give you the money back.
Also, if it breaks 3 times within the original warranty period, you have the right to request a superior product and pay the difference or maybe even ask for your money back but I'm not sure about the last.
Such warranties like the one mentioned above usually come with instant replacement, so that you're not left waiting for another drive. In some cases, they also act like home accident insurance, where they'll replace the drive even if you say "the cat pushed the external drive box off the table".
later edit: in the case of the above plan it's an "in store product replacement program" - whatever is in the computer case and breaks down, they'll replace it ... so no need to wait for them to send the drive to hdd company to have it inspected and get a refurbished drive from hdd company in return and so on, you get a new drive from the store.Last edited by mariushm; 12-13-2011, 10:50 PM.Comment

It's not quite like that in Europe, or at least here in Romania.

Re: HDD price hike
Not a chance! I've never paid extra for any type of extended or supplementary warranty. If something goes wrong I present, sometimes argue my case and make sure I get the problem resolved. Worked just fine all these years. Thing is, a warranty isn't really worth much these days, except to the manufacturers - who make all the(ir) rules.System: HP xw6600 Workstation, 650W PSU | 2x Intel Xeon Quad E5440 @2.83GHz | 8x 1GB FB-DDR2 @ 667MHz | Kingston/Intel X25-M 160GB SSD | 2x 1TB Spinpoint F3, RAID0 | 1x 1TB Spinpoint F3, backup | ATI FireGL V7700 512MB | Sony Optiarc DVD +/-RW | Win 7 Ultimate x64 | 2x Dell UltraSharp U2410f | Dell E248WFPComment

by momakaOK, this one dates back to 2015! I thought I had posted this, but realized I didn’t when I posted a picture of something else. So here it goes…
Back in 2015, I bought a pair of RCA WHP141 wireless headphones at Micro Center for $2. I even mentioned it in the best cheap/free scores thread right here. Just forgot to follow up with that.
As mentioned back then, these are (were) 900 MHz FM wireless headphones. No modern day Blutooth or anything like that. I knew they wouldn’t be great headphones or even that good… but the price was right! So let’s take...
