Dual monitors with their own audio

Is there a simple/inexpensive way to have separate audio to each monitor in a dual monitor setup? A particular soundcard maybe?

Add a second sound card. You shouldn't have to do anything with windows other then driver install. But if you do, tell windows which is the primary sound card for the system which would be the one that was already existing in the rig.

Then whatever application you use, see if you can set the second sound card as it's default.

In linux you can easily tell applications to use whatever sound device.

      Use a headphones splitter?

Re: Dual monitors with their own audio

If the monitors receive the signal through HDMI or maybe DVI (not all monitors and not all cards pass sound through DVI, the amd cards do), each monitor will create a sound card device in windows.
So you can configure one application to use a sound card or another.
If you use regular analogue cables to connect the monitor speakers, then you need either two sound cards or a sound card that has independent outputs.

For example M-Audio 2496 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829121120) has (besides 5.1 optical out) 4 mono inputs and 4 mono outputs and I think (but I'm not 100% sure) you can group them into 2 stereo outputs that appear as two separate sound cards within Windows.

What you can't do (easily) is have applications switch to one sound card when you drag their window onto one monitor or something like that.

I think there is software out there like Sinergy (http://synergy-foss.org/) but that can also capture the sound and transfer it to a particular monitor but I don't know any in particular.

That's more or less what I would like to achieve.
The card you linked wouldn't do the job, neither would Sinergy, but thanks for the links.

My card has DisplayPort and Dual Link DVI-I outputs so there should be no problem with that. I will keep searching, maybe there's a solution somewhere out there.

As for a headphone splitter...? Not quite what I had in mind, but good to see you using your noggin shovey
