FYI: Cheap CR2032 at Harbor Freight

I was in sudden need of a CR2032 this weekend and didn't have any on hand. These batteries usually cost 4-6 dollars each at the local stores. Much to my surprise, I found a set of 4 for $1.99 (on sale from $2.99) at Harbor Freight. The manufacturer is "Thunderbolt Magnum", which should probably be read as "whichever nameless Chinese battery manufacturer wins the contract that week".

I don't know if they are any good or not , I mean, in terms of how long they hold up in long term use, but the one of the four I tested did have the right voltage.

Monoprice.com has them for $0.69 each:

Amazon.com has a ton of them as well:

pack of 25 for $4.32 or 50 for $7 if you're into relatively noname, about $1.5-$2.5 for 5 if you're into brands (Energizer etc)

Sure, lots of places to get them cheap on the internet. Not much use though if you need one "right now". Around here the only brick and mortar store around here that sells them at a low price seems to be Harbor Freight.

One of our local mom and pop drug stores sells them for $0.89 (Sony Brand). Never hurts to shop the smaller local business.

I usually pick some up at a dollar store. They typically come in packs of 3.

Actually I did look in one. The only batteries they had were "super heavy duty". No alkalines, no CR or other button types.

I noticed the other day that Ace Hardware also carries some random cheap Shenzhen Flybynight™ brand button cells... at least the local one does, but I'd assume they've all got similar stock. I forget the exact price, but it was somewhere in the range of $2-3 for a pack of six. They also had some assortment packs with quite a few common sizes.
