    Multimonitor question

    I want to add a second monitor to my PC, I currently have a 17" 4:3 (1280x1024) one, and I will buy a 18.5" 16:9 (1366x768) one (I can't find a monitor with same specs as the current and I can't afford 2 monitors)

One of them is connected with DVI and the other one is VGA,

Could I configure the video card (an HD5450) so both of them would use they respective native resolution or I would be condemned to view a distorted and blurred image on one of the monitors?

Because with a laptop with an HD5470, if I connect a 4:3 external monitor, it shows fine but the laptop screen is distorted (because it is 16:10) and I can't set different resolutions for each screen.
    Many thanks.

    Re: Multimonitor question

If you show the same image on each screen then each screen must have the same resolution. The resolutions are independent when the screen content is different, except on a very few el-cheapo laptop chips.
    sig files are for morons

      Re: Multimonitor question

It depends if you have it set to "clone" mode, where both screens display the same content, or "extended desktop" mode, where each screen displays different content.

It sounds like your laptop is set to "clone" mode. There's probably an option buried in the ATI control panel somewhere to change that.

(I put the mode names in quotes as I'm not quite sure what they're called by ATI, and I don't have any machines with an ATI card and dual monitors to go check)

Many thanks! I am convinced now, I will test this when the new monitor arrives

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Dell monitor PSU vs Dell laptop PSU
          by keepread
          Hi there!
Someone gave me their old monitor, it's Dell S2715ht.
The owner was using it when his PSU began to smell and then to smoke. It literally began to melt. He turned the monitor off, pulled the PSU, and ditched it because it was smelly even after it cooled. So I got the monitor but not the plug.
Now, I tried to bring the monitor back to life, by plugging one of my many Dell laptop PSUs. They are of the same 19.5V, and the wattage of the laptop PSU is higher than that which the monitor is rated for. Visually, the socket on the monitor seems compatible, and the plug plugs...

          AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
          by wattage
          Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

          Hi Everyone

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.
          https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...lashing-on-off

The monitor is HP 27es LED Monitor
          https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Deskto...e/td-p/6804692

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.
Sometimes need to power and off again to restore the display but...

LG 23MP55HQ LED Monitor turns off after a few seconds or flickers.
          by Rick_1234
          Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.
