I have a problem with installing XP on optiplex 780

    Hitachi 500GB, optiplex 780 tower.
Results in 0x0000007B every time at preinstall stage after loading basic drivers.

I tried both pre-install SATA drivers from Dell by slipstream them into XP install disc using nlite and still get this ....7B blue screen.

And this partition and formatting stage is not even started.

Download a new XP ISO and try loading it in non-AHCI mode. If it still BSODs then there's something wrong with the hardware.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

What service pack level is the CD you're using?
Setting the BIOS to 'IDE mode' should kick things along.

        yeah 7b is usually a boot-time error. Disable Raid/AHCI

hmm, maybe F6'ing and loading it from a floppy, also make sure you're loading the right driver. Also make sure its an SP3 disk

SP2!? Okay I'll slipstream SP3. Where do I get this bagful of SP3 stuff?

Don't these service pack don't get loaded eariler as this is 7B problem *with* during "booting" from install CD prior to the preparing hard drive stuff?

I now have a USB floppy on hand now.

And editing the BIOS settings on different mode of SATA or ATA didn't help.

Try using a different cd drive. Sometimes it will make a difference.

              Did you disable RAID/AHCI?

Actually none of above except one, the SATA AHCI, I set to SATA ATA for now and install driver then switch AHCI later. Regardless of this settings, the problem was USB bootable XP install. Funny this worked on other machines.

I'm fixing up new CD with SP3 slip streamed. Now installing as I speak.

                Sigh!

sometimes using a F6 boot driver from a USB floppy will not work with XP, it will take, then when it gets nearly done, it asks for the driver from a: and refuses it take it from the floppy, this is why I love vista/7's installer (only good thing about vista) is it can take a boot driver from anything (flash stick!), without even having to be a 'txtsetup.oem' install driver

if you have trouble, you can do a search for 'dell oem xp sp3 original torrent' or a varation on the such. there are tons of torrents out there of uncracked, original dists that don't come with a key or any pirate crap. Of course now a days you can use XP oem original and it will take an install on any dell/hp/toshy/gayway whatever, as long as you have the oem sticker on the bottom it can take it, with practically infinite activations too

Have you checked your ram? A lot of install errors are caused from a bad stick of ram.

Like I said on post #8, I have solved the problem.
