      unfortunately... for both

reason why i've got that avatar is the board i used for my Core 2 Quad a while back. Abit IP35P.
pretty much perfect layout (except the floppy connector location), no BS functions and it OCed very well..
i just can't part with it.. allthough i have no use for it at the moment..

caps on mine are all Nichicon, Sanyo and Nippon Chemicon.. (they learned their lesson after the crapcap disaster..)

Other boards i've got are the good ol' Abit BX6 and the IC7 (Socket 478, i875 Chipset). i also have some random EPoX boards, most notably the EPoX 4PCA3i R2 (Socket 478 ; i875) .. came with crapcaps (GSC & Teapo) and was dead as a rock. recapped it and it still works fine to this day..

That sounds like the Microsoft installer for Windows Live, IIRC, it would wait until almost the end then error out and roll back the changes.

The cause was a registry entry that somehow had a messed up ACL.
And I would get an access denied error when trying to access the registry entry.
It mysteriously had the ACL set to deny write access and read access to the registry entry.
And it was an important registry entry.

They reset that every so often. It did that to me with a copy of X64 a couple years ago (had it on 4 systems at the same time). Soon after i tried it again, it activated no problem. C_hagge is correct though, if it does that to you, just call them....they'll light up your install.

                  Re: Vista or Vistrash?

what i'm taking about is OEM (HP, Dell, Toshoba) keys I have activated 10 times so far with no problems. Mind you incase micro$oft decided to start adding key limitations I keep track of the number of activations so far. But I have a dell Pro key from the gx280 I have activated at least 8 times this year

I know its legally gray, but no one cares

Nahh...I was in your boat, but once I got W7, I realized how old XP was. You shouldn't try running 7 on an ancient machine, but for new computers, don't even think about XP.

There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

I run Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on a desktop and a Workstation, and 32bit on 2 laptops - overall I think it is a great OS, I have very few complaints/niggles. I found Vista to be a pain in the arse. Much like IE9 64bit.

lol my mom still runs vista on her laptop

But seriously, she adapted to Vista from XP pretty quickly when she had her first Vista-based laptop. On another note, I never had problems running Vista on any PC I had installed, even on my old Dell Dimension 8200. It was surprisingly fast. (It was a test install at the time.)

I moved on from Vista, however, I still use it in some test installs.

I preferred XP to Vista, still do. In fact I've recently been contemplating a Win7/XP dual boot on either my workstation or desktop.

Windows Vista? I almost forgot that it even existed after Windows 7 came out.

Back when Vista was the latest thing I jumped right on the bandwagon from XP, because I'm the person who wants the latest thing. Before 7 came out I actually liked Vista and how it looked compared to XP, but after getting 7 I'm not looking back.

I put Windows 7 on newer computers, and XP on older computers. Windows 7 doesn't need better hardware than Vista, plus it's newer and much improved. That said, there's no point for Vista anymore, IMO.

                                            Hi all,

It's gonna be a long intro, so please buckle in, as it's a problem that's been bugging me for several days now. Thanks in advance.

So, I have 2 modems/routers, whatever the proper nomenclature is, one from ISP and one mine. I want to power them via USB-C rather then their original mains adapters (for reasons, that are hard to explain to sane people). Both routers come with 12V/3A mains adapters.
For this purpose I acquired USB-C charger with 250W and 5 ports, 2 of which can supply max 20V/3A. Since 12V isn't a standard PD voltage option (and to future proof,...
