    Vintage PC stuff search.

    Recently I was trawling through ebag looking for quality 386DX stuff. Especially boards like American Megatrends, yes the AMI BIOS maker, and does have trademark on one or more silkscreened on their designed chipsets. I had this 386DX 25 with cache long ago. What a speedy board.

    Also I am looking for PS/2 model 70 (8570) or 60, 80 (8560 or 8580) tower.

    Is there other ways to find old good stuff, all I find is generic board scraps on ebay for 486 and 386 boards.

    Any reputation on Micronics motherboards? I barely heard of them even long ago.

    Cheers, Wizard

    I've had a few micronics boards back in the socket 7 days. Was never overly impressed with them, they always seemed to be quirky.

    As for the vintage parts search, ebay and craigslist will be your best bet.

      Wow, the last time I used a PS/2 model 70 was back in 1995 running OS/2 Warp with a DOS window box running Mosaic and Netscape 0.x!!

      If you enjoy that stuff, there is a guy (uxwbill) on youtube that chats about PS/2s. http://www.youtube.com/user/uxwbill

      Unfortunately for you, a search of ps/2 nowadays leads to playstation 2s.

      edit: Try your local freecycle group. You would be amazed at what people will give you if you ask nicely.

      If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

      We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

        I used to use Micronics motherboards in custom Netware servers, they were always reliable for me. Wow, that's a while ago..

          Re: Craigslist: this is really bad here and also to see the idiocy of vehicles selling, 99% are dealer/shops selling used vehicles, I'll start with computers first then vehicles;

          kijiji is bit better but keep in mind this is owned by ebay for people don't have to pay a fee to ebay & is by local areas. I can find some promising leads on computers and vehicles but not as good. Also I find kijiji more risky, could be selling stolen items.

          So you can see this situation is not nice. There was a store years ago that sells classic computers and parts and I was overjoyed but that one closed up.

            well....if you can wait a couple years....according to the powers that be in the FAA...there will be about 800 ps/2s available.

            oooo....not sure which model though.....
