    SuperMicro C2SBA+II won't post

    Building a system.

    Motherboard
    CPU = C2D E6850, SLA9U, 3.0GHz
    Memory = 2 x Crucial CT212864AA800 (Kit 2 pcs), DDR2, PC2-6400, Unbuffered
    Video = 7300GS, PCI-E, 256Mb DDR2, TV out, nVidia chipset

Assembled to this point and decided to test unit.

No POST beeps. Hooked up monitor, no POST video.
    - Reset BIOS
    - Changed video card, no change
    - Changed memory modules, no change
    - Removed video card, no beeps
    - Remove memory and get long repeating beep as per manual for no memory detected.

    Suggestions? Did I miss something?

I've emailed SM tech support, but won't hear from them until Monday.

pop out the cpu and check your socket for bent pins

make sure the 12v plug is connected and good (try another psu)

agree on this one.... hehe i've forgotten this one a million times.

also is ur monitor+monitorcable good? that's actually happened to me a couple of times too.

just trying out the macroscale stuff before u actually mess with the board.

        Re: SuperMicro C2SBA+II won't post

        Thanks for the input.

        Socket pins - Ok
        CPU 12v plug - Ok
PSU - Ok - I had already swapped on initial diagnosis, just didn't mention it.

CPU swapped with identical unit from working board - No post/beep, no video

Memory and video card swapped to other unit, work perfectly.

Without checking, the monitor and cable are okay. The problem is -no beeps-. There should be -at least one-.

hmm... the board is grounded okay on the case right?

also, the fans... are they spinning up, spinning down, and then spinning up again? if so, it could be a continuous restart. if they are spinning constantly, sounds like a bad board. i know some SM are picky about RAM, perhaps try different slots?

i know some SM also won't power up if it detects that the cpu fan is unplugged.

            Re: SuperMicro C2SBA+II won't post

            Grounded okay.
            Fans work fine.

Must use Slot 1A & 1B for first block; can't change it around. I tried it anyway Slots 2A & 2B. NADA.

Working RAM was tried and this RAM was used in other (identical) board and is fine.

I'm fairly certain it's the board right now. Looks like RMA time unless someone has another idea.

Try unplugging the power, then removing the BIOS battery, then resetting the bios with the jumper. I've seen that work before.

Also make sure you don't have any unnecessary standoffs below the motherboard that could be shorting something out.

Try it with just one memory module.

I don't expect that any of this will work, but give it a shot anyway.

                try acstech's ideas.

if they don't work, its RMA either way by now... Just wanted to know whether the board was just continuously restarting or if it just won't start (you can tell by listening to the fans... it will cycle)

since you've tried multiple sticks it is unlikely all of them are incompatible. i'd see what SM says and then send it in. It's still under warranty so I wouldn't bother wasting time working on it.

                  Re: SuperMicro C2SBA+II won't post

C2SBA+II does not work with single RAM modules.
[That's according to the manual. I don't think I ever tested it to see.]
                  - Has to have pairs and 1A+1B is first pair. [Blue slots.]

acstech's unplug PSU + remove battery is a good idea.

Leave untested drives disconnected from mobo & power until you get to a BIOS screen. [Bum drive can pull +12v or +5v down to almost nothing.]

No beeps on a new board makes me think scrambled/staticed BIOS chip.

Strange board if it's a G33 chipset and it only works in dual channel. I'll take your word for it though.

                        I agree, it's RMA time.

Just curious though, what anti-static precautions are you taking?

Tried on board video. No video, no beeps.

AS mat and wrist strap. Board was in AS bag and placed into chassis. I think it was bad before it got here.

Was the board brand new, or was it a reman board. I have got some bad reman boards in the past. I say you have done more then enough to send it back for RMA.

Board is a "working pull" from an ebay purchase. According to seller it was in his WHS unit but he could not get the drivers in Linux to work with SATA ports 5 & 6.

so does it still have warranty? that sounds like a chipset problem if sata ports don't work

sounds like the ebay seller was talking out his butt... "working pull" (if you pull it out of the bag and want a frisbee) was what he might have been meeting...

"yah, sata 5 and 6 is no good in linux (and neither is anything else, sucker!)"

if you have a warranty, return it. if not, you sir have been screwed.

Contacted them and they will allow me to return it for a refund. This is 60 days after auction end.

I'm not going to do that. I'll do the RMA process and see what SM has to say or will do for me.
