    OCing Mendocino Celeron

I have a matched pair of 433MHz Mendocino Celerons (6.5x66), sSpec code SL3BA. If I can get a BP6 for cheaply and recap (poss.) it, what can I expect as far as OCing the chips? BTW both Celerons are in PPGA. (Are there any Mendocinos not in PPGA?)

I'd be surprised if you can do any better than 528 MHz (8x66). That's a pretty significant increase (1.23x original). You could also try setting the bus speed up to 100, and see what they'll do. Wouldn't you be better off buying a pair of 800-1000 MHz P3s? Or is your goal to build the best machine you can with those chips?

You can't change the multiplier as it's locked on all these Celerons. I guess that 6.5x75 is the maximum but it will probably be unstable.

Your best bet for mendocino's is a pair of 366's. I'm yet to see a pair that wont overclock to 550/100 (5.5x100) with good cooling and be solid as a rock stable. Much beyond that is too high for the mendocino core to run reliably. 366's are DIRT ass cheap, u can likely get a good pair for less than 20 dollars.

But not many of them can run at 550. Also not many 333 can run at 500. I've had two 333 and they did not work at 500 even with increased voltage. So you'll have to be lucky.

Ah, I only have the 2x 433 Celeron and my goal is to build the best BP6 machine with those chips. What is "good" cooling? A pair of 60mm aluminium HSF's with AS5? I can get those cheaply on Newegg and I have the AS5.

Also, anotherquestion: Do the processors have to be the same sSpec number to work together in SMP?

                i have a bp6 with 2x300a@112 fsb=504.
iirc the ones made in malasia are the best oc'ers
                a friend has a bh6 with a 300a slot at 504 with original caps!
its starting to get flakey so i guess its time for a recap.
its been running 7 years like this and only now showing its age.
he checked vcore and found .7v pp so caps it is.

The steppings (mA0, mB0, etc.) should definitely be the same. S-Specs don't have to match, but net wisdom holds that it helps prevent obscure lockups and hangs.

Mendocinos are also available in Slot-1 packages - the best one known is the 300A, available only in Slot-1.

                      i have a pair of skt370 300/128 here.
mine are es to boot.333 are more common.
                      es(engineering sample) have unlocked multiplier.

Thanks, but nobody answered my cooling question.
