    Help after recapping

    Hi
I just received my motherboard back after it was recapped.
And I cannot get it to work.
(yes, i have doubled checked and it was put back together properly)
I get a blue screen stop error message.

    0x000000CE
    Driver_Unloaded_Without_Cancelling_Pending_Operations

I cannot load up into safe mode, nothing... I get this error everytime, no matter what...
    I'm running Windows2000.
    Any Ideas...

    Re: Help after recapping

windows got trashed while the caps were bad?
    it happens.
save important data and reinstall windows without formatting.
i would try running a live distro like knoppix.
if it boots to a desktop your hardware is likely ok.

recommended to do a clean reinstall of win2k
if you get no file copy errors or crashes on install then all is probably ok

            Re: Help after recapping

OK, still having problems... but a different problem now
            I reinstalled Windows 2000.\
And now my computer is pretty much doing the same thing as before it was recapped.
It just reboots from a bugcheck, a lot.
It's done it twice already, and I've only had teh computer on for about 1 hr...

            any ideas... ??

I'd check the caps in the PSU too.

can you run some rounds of http://www.memtest86.com/ so we can eliminate bad ram as an issue also.

check your bios settings, perhaps the board was returned at default settings.

did you clean the cpu and heatsink, put some new thermal compound, check the heatsink is attached properly and the fan is working.

                    Re: Help after recapping

Ok, thanks for the ideas. I'm going to run memtest in a little bit.
also, I checked out a website that lists what 0x000000D1 errors do, and it said it could be caused by a faulty driver. and I have only installed 2 drivers so far after I reinstalled. One was a driver that came with my motherboard for the built in NIC card. The other was for my soundcard... So I uninstalled the sound card driver yesterday evening, and everything is running fine so far.... (knock on wood)

I'll post the results of the memtest after I get this also.

                    thanks for the help.

you didnt install motherboard chipset drivers? it is recommended. i usually do that first, then vga card drivers before i go blind.

recommended to install service pack 4 as well. i have that on many pcs no prob.

i usually use updated drivers not the mobo cd. usually it is kinda old.

what is the soundcard model? are you using the same driver and slot as before? dissapointing to see pissy drivers

                        Re: Help after recapping

memtest went just fine. no errors

as for the motherboard chipset drivers... I dont have them, and I just looked on Tyan's website, and couldn't find anything for my motherboard...
                        I have upgraded Windows 2000 to SP4.

Actually, I did find 1 driver on Tyan's website. it's for the built in network card, so I'm downloading that, and will update that driver.

I am using the same slot and driver as beofre for the sound card. I'll check on what kind it is and edit this post.

I just checked my sound card. I have no idea what it is...
It's got nothing to identify it, no brand name, but it does have some stuff printed on a chip on it. it says CMI8738/PCI-SX HRTF Audio Com

The driver cd says "mad Dog multimedia" predator blastwave 5.1

and after a while, i did find a couple more things on Tyan's website, but wasn't sure if I needed them, their website is not very user friendly...

                                    i agree. it is terrible.

i do think that board needs drivers though. if they are not on the cd then email tyan. they will probably refer you to a download of amd reference drivers. nice board btw. perfect for server or workstation. how are you using it. do you have scsi headers?

One more thing to check that I've seen VERY frequently on AMD systems:

Check the heatsinks and amke sure there's heatsink compound on them, and also make sure that there's enough tension being applied to them, or they'll overheat and cause such problems. Your PSU was just fine, as well as the board. It booted to XP Pro for testing, running SiSoft's burn-in.

This likely is caused by a buggy driver. Saw this one before when hanging up a 56k modem. (probably buggy modem drivers)

                                          Dear reader

I am performing a repair on a Sony ICF-SW55, which includes recapping (some) of the SMD capacitors on the mainboard. I am looking for verification of their values. At the moment, I'm 95% sure I've got the right values, but it is hard to find some official, credible or multiple independant sources on this.

At the moment, I have selected replacements based on the following list of values:

                                          3 x 470uF 10VDC
                                          3 x 4.7uF 35VDC
                                          4 x 47uF 50VDC
                                          8 x 22uF 6.3 VDC
                                          1 x 220uF 6.3VDC
                                          5 x 100uF 6.3VDC

                                          Which...

Recapping KRK VXT6 without original datasheets
                                          by slerner
I'm desperate to save my pair of 2007 KRK VXT6 studio monitors, one of which died.
Hoping for an easy fix, I bought a pair of new-old-stock replacement main boards. I installed one & it was DOA. Tried the other, also DOA. I suspect that 15 years in a Maltese warehouse dried out the electrolytic caps. I tried replacing just the two largest caps, which didn't help. Except to confirm that the old ones wouldn't reach infinite resistance & were a gram underweight.
Q: How do I match the caps, since there's no series marked on the originals and no circa-2007 catalog or datasheets...

Figured I’d separate the recapping details of this PSU in a different thread so that the information can be easier to find. To be more specific, this thread is about recapping of the Delta DPS-300AB-24b, shown here. All details about the build quality of that PSU are posted there.

Here is the PSU, just to see what we are dealing with:

And here is a cap diagram:

Let’s break it down what goes where…

                                          * 5VSB

Hi All, I am recapping a Bell Expressvu satellite receiver due to the known issues with swollen caps. I want to use Nichicon or Panasonic caps...Couple questions

                                          1) is low ESR & low impedance the same thing ?
                                          2) Am I safe using low or super low impedance capacitors as a replacement everywhere ?
                                          3) I have read that you can go higher on voltage with replacements. for an example if the originals are 820uf 10v could I put 820uf 25v without any issues ?

                                          Hi,

I'd like to recap some of my old mainboards (they are from 1998) before switching them on again for the first time after many years in storage. All caps still look good from the outside.
                                          There are three mainboards:
                                          - ASUS P5A rev 1.04
                                          - ASUS P2B-S rev 1.03 "Rubycon"
                                          - ASUS P2B-S rev 1.03 "Chemi-Con"

If you are interested in their specs, The Retro Web has pages for the P5A and the P2B-S.

They all have many 1000uF 6.3V 105°C capacitors. But there are some differences I cannot figure out.

                                          P5A
                                          ...
