I think we have a similar model in US here. However Acer's reliability is not the best from stories I've heard. Nice laptop tho.
    The great capacitor showdown!

          Re: Killer Laptops

          well spotted sir!!!

the acer looks to have 4200 according to forum posts (official hdd specs not found) the fujitsu has 5400 sata (official specs)

i installed a 7200 seagate in a customers laptop. old 1.2ghz p3 compaq evo. Broke in 1 week. Customer flipped over the laptop to remove the cdrom while it was still running and killed the hdd. I got him a 5400 instead if he is gonna do stuff like that.

            Re: Killer Laptops

That's one of the things that makes Acer cheap. And crap too. Overall "speed" feeling of Windows heavily depends on HDD performance.
I've replaced dying 4.3GB IBM HDD (4200RPM) in my P166MMX notebook with 5400RPM Hitachi 40GB - the speed improvement was really great. Windows 98SE boots in about 40 seconds, Word 2000 starts in less than 3 seconds (uncached after reboot, cached in less than 1 second).
Slowness begins when I try to use open source software - Firefox, OpenOffice or Linux with X - everything horribly slow But software is off-topic here...

yeh its true, hdd and ram upgrade can make the biggest difference. i have seen great performance increase upgrading old 300mhz pii comps with an ata card (sil chipset) and using a new hdd. ata card necessary anyway to support the larger drive size.

i think i will have to get 2 laptops for people in the office. how do you feel about IBM now they are owned by chinese? i think they are still serviced by IBM office here and they offer good service. Fujitsu seems like the good choice. one of my friends is very happy with his athlon 64 fujitsu.
