Is an exploded cap still usable?

I just bought two non-working Kenwood CS4035 scopes to muck around with, as I'm in the process of learning electronic repair, so figured they should teach me something.

They have linear power supplies, and on one of the PSU boards, there is a 4700uF electrolytic which had it top blown open.
Turns out that both scopes have had various repair/mods done before and this cap had been fitted in reversed polarity.

Anyway, out of interest, I figured I would see how a blown cap tested, so flattened the top and took a reading, which came back as 4800uF, with negligible ESR and V loss.

I was not expecting a reading anything like that, and it has never even entered my head that an exploded cap might still be usable

So my question is, could this capacitor still be used?

No, at least not for any extended time period, if it was relatively new and just reversed polarity there may still be electrolyte in it now leading it to test "good" but now that the seal is broken (even if you pushed the vent back down it isn't sealed anymore, that is a solid piece of metal from the factory with relief notches stamped into it to allow for venting if the can is over pressurized, once it vents that seal is broken) it will likely dry out and go "bad" in short order (I guess you could theoretically epoxy the vent, but then if it ever needs to vent again it will go "kaboom" and possibly do allot more damage).

      Thank you.

It would have been changed regardless, however I was just surprised to get that reading.

Help figuring out the resistance of this exploded resistor. gtx 1060 6gb inno3d compact
          by Bivolalbert

Hello,I need help figuring out the resistance of this exploded resistor. I'm pretty sure it's the one labeled R37. I tried measuring it with a multimeter, but I got different values each time, probably because it's exploded. If you have a schematic, it would be really helpful!

Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 14IRP8 - help identifying what exploded in the motherboard
          by iminusjk
          Hello everyone,
I hope this finds you doing well.

I need some help identifying what and how important is that exploded in my laptop's motherboard.
          Photos attached.

          My laptop is a 1 month old Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 14IRP8 (83BU), i9-13905H, RTX4070, 64 GB ram.
It was in the charger, and I was excited to play FC24 for the first time, but when the loading screen came something exploded in the laptop and it shut down.
It didn't turn on for about 30 seconds after that, but then it turned on and has been working seemingly perfectly (at least I didn't notice...

          Yamaha RX-479 PSU exploded
          by Satdude
Hi, I have a Yamaha RX-497 receiver, and one day I came home to a burnt smell and the breaker was tripped. Upon opening the receiver, I saw extreme damage to the main power board. C254 was exploded, R261 was burnt, D255 was shorted, Q254 is open circuit, D261 (bridge rectifier) is also open, traces to IC252 (TC4013BP) are vaporized right off the board. Not sure about any other damage, I'll have to desolder the flip flop to test it. Also the transformer T251 is getting hot when plugged in. What could have caused such extreme damage just sitting plugged in? Only repair that was done in the past...

          usable tablet with broken glass/screen?
          by paparazzo79
          Hi guys.
I wonder if this tablet is usable in near future?
I wonder how come I don't see yet artifacts of a broken screen (vertical lines)?
          It's a Tab S4.

          Indentifying an old exploded cap.
          by Crystaleyes
          Hi all.

A friend asked me to help remove the mains hum from an old 60's or 70's portable record player.
The brand is Motoplay, which is an obscure Brazilain brand.

Anyway. One of the caps seemingly decided to launch itself into outer space and exploded in the process.

It appears to have been a ceramic disc with coloured stripes, and from the bits I could find and see, it appeared to be either violet or silver on top, followed by some brown, then some orange.

It definitely had silver, brown orange going down, but the brown...
