weird caps from a broken car radio

    hello
i opened up a broken sony car radio which i'm going to be using for parts and i'm wondering what caps i should salvage from it

now i am going to save the rubycon and nichicon caps from it but there are 2 other brands that i need to know if they are good or not
    brands
Rpe [the R is it a box kanda like the M on the panny caps and i've seen them in some DVD players]
DRIVE.S [looks a lot like a UCC cap]

i will try to take photos sometime soon

It's possible that that's some custom sleeve for Sony.

If you order enough caps, you can ask the cap manufacturer to do some custom sleeves, as does in some lower end Super Flower designs with reddish/brownish Teapo sleeved caps or CapXon GF....

i would just buy new ones .. then save the old ones from that job .. saves work and get a pile of old caps to throw on a fire .

^This, I would suspect it is a Chemi-Con based on the vent, sleeve color, and the fact that I've seen custom sleeved Chemi-Cons in Sony receivers before (and I've seen custom sleeved Panasonics in Kenwood receivers/amps, custom sleeving appears to be fairly common for audio caps).

I wonder if it's one certified for automotive use, considering the name.

ok so the DRIVE.S cap could be a NCC/UCC cap
but i still don't know if the Rpe caps are good or if they are a bad brand
i've seen the Rpe caps it some DVD players and some VCR's tho i've never seen a dead one nor have i seen one over 220uf
they could be a cheap chinese cap
tho i've never seen chinese caps in any sony product i've mostly see brands like rubycon UCC and nichicon [and in older sony product's i've seen some elna caps]

R = Tiny Rubycon. See here. That tiny 85ºC cap was made in Indonesia, during the 52nd week of 2009 (December 2009). Newer Sony products are known to have Lelon in them, in "less" critical areas. The font on that "DRIVE.S" capacitor, beneath the logo, matches that of a Chemi-con.

Yep, genuine Rubycon caps have an R in a square as the logo on the really small caps, where Rubycon wouldn't fit.

so the Rpe caps are rubycon ok cool
now i'm more likely to save them
and i did not know sony now uses Lelon cap sometime in less critical areas
so now i may get to desoldering tonight and maybe do a few dead PSU's
                      thank you

Yep, at least Sony still sticks to the good stuff for the most part in "critical areas" (power supply and audio path) of their audio equipment, Yamaha uses Jamicons all over in their cheaper receivers/amps, and polk has been using crap like Jun-Fu in their powered subwoofers for over a decade, and conductive glue as well (I had a now dead Polk PSW, though it was the conductive glue and not the crap caps that killed it).

I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

                            clock radio / radio lifespan?
                            by shelby5041
                            hi
ive got a modern digital clock radio approx 15yrs old

my question is how long can a clock radio or a simple radio last ss farcas operating hours?

since elec components have limited hour lifecspan i would imagine the radio or clock radio would eventually fail.

the reason i ask is because i have my clock radio on radio function 24/7 for the past 7 years and its still working fine....i leave the radio on ..never turn off past 7years...thats approx 60000 hours

it uses very little power just a few watts i would imagine that may have something...

                            Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."
                            ...

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
                            by Paxman_Swede
                            Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

                            by UserXP
                            Dear all,

I have this old radio clock by Sony from the early 80s, I guess. The clock display works, but is dim, the function board appears to be OK - but the radio unit shows no signs of life. It doesn't produce a single noise, crack or anything from either FM or AM band. It's like it doesn't even power up.
i opened the radio and it is full of some TRACON gray capacitors. They only have their negative strip printed, voltage and capacitace markings - no series, no temperature marking, nothing else.
My question is, do you know of this brand of capacitors and how bad are...
