I opened up a Cyberpower 550VA UPS. It uses all Suscon capacitors, apparently. The biggest one is a 3300uf 16v 10mm cap that looks to be about 50mm high. It's situated between two heat sinks. I think I can get a 12.5mm cap in there as a replacement but it would wedge tight against the heat sinks. Opinions?
The right cap in the wrong place?

No problem. Those HS only get hot when on battery, otherwise they are inert. For charging it has different circuitry (stand-by supply). This cap filters its output.
But of course I have all the neccessary 16 D10 capacitors. Chemi-Con KYB 2200/16, custom KZN 3300/16, Samxon RS 3300/16. Best prices.Last edited by Behemot; 10-25-2015, 03:59 AM.Less jewellery, more gold into electrotech industry!Half of the computer problems is caused by bad contacts

by jm1234Hi,
solder joints on heat sinks - how much do they matter? Could poor joints on heat sink cause issues if they are not properly joining to hot ground?
I'm looking at power source module of Panasonic plasma TV and I see many of these having visually poor quality, but could they matter? In general I would guess no, but I saw a video where someone was stressing out the importance of tightening the screws when fastening the power source board specifically for the ground to be connected properly.

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

by Jeff'sTechHello everyone.
I have come here with a rather specific question. I was given a Dell Latitude 7420 laptop with a busted screen, and wanted to see if I could refurbish it into my daily driver. I wanted to experiment and see if a 2-in-1 display would work as the chassis of the laptop and 2-in-1 7420 looked identical. I threw in the display and my hypothesis was correct, however, I was greeted with a locked BIOS and since I didn't know the password, I figured I'd try to unlock it somehow. I bought one of those POGO pin probe things for my CH341A programmer so I could read and make... -
by SolomonManAll,
I was over my sons place helping him with projects today. (Broken Dryer Belt, a Couple leaking pipes (One cracked - that got me over there),and Thermostat swap.
The Energy company offered a Rebate on the Nest Thermostat System (Not the Learning One) last year and we picked it up and its sat in the shipped box for about a year now.
Anyways I was thinking it would be a quick job as I currently have a Nest Learning Thermostat at my place and it was not a problem to install. (Old Rheem 90 Furnace)
