    First time recap question

I have a couple of boards I want to attempt recapping. The first is an emachines/FIC AU31 and the other is a Biostar U8668 Grand. I'm planning on ordering enough caps to do both boards.

I've read a few posts here that recommend replacing the 1000uF caps and up. Both boards have a fair number of 100uF and 22uF caps. Should I replace all the larger caps first and then see if I need to do the small ones? The AU31 has Nichicon, Teapo, Ost, Sanyo and Rubycon and the Biostar has all Ost.

    Thanks

Any cap lower than 470uf at least doesn't have to be replaced. Your AU31 board is fine except for the OST caps on it. Just replace the OST caps on it, and you'll be fine.

With the Biostar board, I would recommend replacing all its OST capacitors.

      Dear Friend,
In my case, a small capacitor made trouble first. Can you see the capacitor near the SATA connector? It is the Sanyo OS-CON capacitor used to replace the trouble-maker-a small capacitor.

well a few on this forum have come across small caps causing problems. personally i would replace all the 1000uf and any like 330uf 25v and 470uf 16v etc then if you have problem still look at the smaller caps

I ordered my cap kit. I'll be practicing my technique on an old junk board in the meantime.

Well, I'm 1 for 2 on recaps now. The eMachines AU31 was resurrected , but the Biostar was a no go . I was real nervous on the AU31 with all the surface mount items that were real close to the caps on the back. I only ended replacing the 2200uF caps around the cpu socket. I have the other small caps in case the Sanyos and others fail later.
