    Fake ELNA?

Found this in a Youngyear power supply. I broke the warranty seal so I know no one else messed with it. It seems very strange to see an ELNA in PSU, but also when the rest of the caps are Fuhjyyu, Koshin, GL, Su'scon, and Canicon.

I can find a RHS datasheet, but not RSH. And RHS only ranges from 160V to 450V

        Re: Fake ELNA?

Not a fake. I came across one of these in an "Ace Power" PSU, which is manufactured by "Pucka", but looks like Young Year inside (Yellow sleeved caps and green transformers. All the caps are yellow, except for the lone Elna RSH. Like you, it has a mix of Capxon Su'scon, and Fuhjyyu).

According to the spec sheet, this is 0.036 ESR, 1690 ripple, and 5000hrs. Not bad, maybe I'll reform it and use it sometime in the future. (And yes, that's a 1997 datecode).

Thanks for sharing. This is an Ace Power too it looks exactly like my Youngyear, are you sure it's made by Pucka? And interesting, I'd think a tall D12.5mm 3300uF cap would have more ripple current than that. Is that a 1997 date code?

It was made in 1997. It's more than what I would expect from a cap of that age

              Yup:

I think Pucka and Young Year are the same company... I haven't seen "Young Year" printed on a PSU label for more than ten years... They're still using the old 5V rail heavy design though, even on these post 2005 Ace Power PSUs.

Mine is the 10V cap, yours is 16V. I can't find 16V 3300uF anywhere in the datasheet, but 16V 2700uF is over 2000mA, so this is a pretty decent, albeit unproven series. Would be nice to get my hands on a bunch of NOS of this though for bottom dollar.

Gotcha, couldn't really read the info from the picture. So yeah it has decent ripple current. Pretty sure these units are what's in all those Apevia units you see on Newegg. One thing I really like about Youngyear is they use massive transformers. ERL44 is pretty big, and I'm sure the switchers appreciate it. The heatsinks are weak though

Elna was a player in low ESR/Impedance lytics in the 1980s and 1990s, but not, IMO, first-tier (= "the four 'cons", Panasonic, Sprague, Mallory).

Elna RSH and RSE were high-endurance predecessors of RJH, RJJ, RJ3, RJ4 etc. They've been out of production for a while, IIRC.

                      Elna capacitors - fake?

                      Hi,

I have capacitors like this one in the photo. There are differences between other Elna series, I attach foto of Elna RE3. On this green capacitors series is not specified! Fake?...

Are there any datasheets available for Elna RJG capacitors?
                      by Ady2017
I have a 2007-era Panasonic VHS combo that is full of of Elna RJG capacitors. I am trying to test the capacitors to diagnose the machine and then select replacement capacitors but I can not find any datasheets for them. I did find a Elna catalogue from 2007-2008 but there is no mention of this capacitor series. Where these specially made for Panasonic and so not made available to the public? Any ideas what to find out what the ESR values should be without the datasheets? They are all between 10V and 50V and 47uF and 1800uF. None are leaking or bulged but I know that they need to be tested to be...

                      Fake Caps in Xbox 360
                      by Galraedia
I decided to take one of the Rubycon capacitors out of a phat Xbox 360 with a Zephyr motherboard and noticed that all the Rubycon capacitors near the CPU were fake. The capacitors in question are Rubycon MFZ 680uf 6.3V and they all have a bullseye bottom, something not found in genuine Rubycon capacitors. None of them were leaking, they all have the K top, and the system has never been opened before. It appears Microsoft was using fake capacitors in the Xbox 360, or the Chinese facility where the console was manufactured in was using them and passing them off a genuine. Just thought I'd share...
