    Re: Looking for advice

Depends on what you are going to recap.

Single-sided power supplies such as for LCD screens and LCD TVs? Or computer motherboards? The latter requires a decent soldering station or at least a 60W "unregulated" iron (but I don't recommend that, as they tend to burn their tips quite fast).

If you're doing just LCD power supplies, a 40 to 50W iron with a chisel tip will likely suffice without breaking the bank. A soldering station would be better, but those are a little more expensive. The next thing you need is solder and flux. For solder, the good old tried-and-true 60/40 leaded will do. For flux, get the "no-clean" type. Both liquid or gel type will do. Avoid plumber's flux from Home Depot - that stuff is meant only for copper pipes.

I'm not the most resourceful when it comes to suggesting kits of where to buy from. You can get most of these from Amazon, eBay, or your local Radio Shack if you like (and don't mind slightly higher prices).

I hope some other members see this thread as they may be able to better guide you on what to get. I'm more of a "use whatever is available on hand".
