Re: "Polymer" capacitor ID question
You appear to be correct. Thank you very much! I should bookmark that website...
And I guess they're real polymers, too.

"Polymer" capacitor ID question
Hey everybody, long time no post!
My current project is to build myself a new storage server, since my old one is nearly full. The case I ordered comes with 3 SATA backplanes, each of which can connect to 4 disks. Each backplane has a total of 10 capacitors on it (one for each drive +12v, one for each drive +5v, and one for each voltage at the power connectors). The caps are all sleeveless, ventless cans with blue writing that says:
728
330
16
I figure they're all 330uF @ 16v, and the lack of a vent leads me to think that they're polymer, or at least pretending to be. The lack of identifying marks makes me a bit suspicious. The size is 10mm dia x 11.5mm h, with a 5mm lead spacing.
The case is a NORCO RPC-2212 2U rackmount. I got a 400W Seasonic 80 Plus Gold PSU for it, so I'm not too concerned about the power quality, but I'm curious about these caps.
Here's the backplanes:
And here's a close up of a few of the caps:
Any ideas?

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition
Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.
Procedure performed:
- Removed backplate
- Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
- Reapplied thermal compound
- Reassembled card
Observed behavior after reassembly:
- GPU powers on and operates normally under...11 Photos -
by chth96a few days ago I finally purchased mser-100 v2 and I tested its abillity of measuring ESR value.
I found that It shows pretty accurate ESR value for electrolytic capacitor,But When I measure polymer capacitor of dreamcast game console,I found that one third of polymer capacitor's ESR value is more than twice the value of ESR meter table.(for example, I measured one polymer capacitor of 6.3v 100uf, It showed ESR value of 7.68)
Although my dreamcast now turns 20 years old but it still works. I occasionally have played game with it.
Is this ESR value of polymer capacitor correct?...-

by joetristanHello,
I’m using a 10 µF, 20 V tantalum capacitor as a decoupling capacitor across a 5 V supply. When I power the circuit, the capacitor burns out.
At first, I assumed the tantalum capacitor was defective and replaced it, but the new one burned out as well when the circuit was powered.
I then replaced the tantalum capacitor with a 10 µF, 63 V electrolytic capacitor. This time, the capacitor did not fail after powering the circuit.
I do not understand why the tantalum capacitor burns up?-

by eccerr0rAnyone had a solid polymer capacitor fail for whatever reason?
How do they fail? Do they explode, go open, short out, ?
How about for different reasons: forcing excessive ripple current, overheating, voltage too high, reverse voltage?
Just wondering about the causes for a potential shorted solid polymer capacitor... trying to debug a board that has a ~4Ω "short" on a track... it may or may not be a capacitor but was wondering what if it were...-

by devsignerHi
While messing around with my MacBook Pro, I stupidly pinged off a very small surface mounted component that I’m now trying to identify.
resistance tests show a rising resistance value, indicating a capacitor.
The laptop boots up and runs, however I'm choosing not to use it until I get it fixed.
i can’t see any markings on the capacitor at 10x magnification using a professional jewler's loop.
It seems like there's some damage to the capacitor - one side doesn't have "shiny bits" - can you tell I don't do this for a living!...5 Photos - Loading...
