    desolder with hot air

I ordered a hot air station, and was just wondering if it is very hard to desolder a 50 pin IC I am very good with the iron but never hot air soldered.

The best that you can do is to train your self over a dead motherboard.
I am now in this path too, with a very powerful station at hand.

Lesson number 1 : if you over do it with the heat a five layers motherboard could start looking as balloon in the point that you where aiming at.

Hot air does take some practice believe me.... As Kiriakos said you can turn a board into a balloon! I killed many boards before getting the hang of it I can tell you.

Get plenty of broken cheap boards and practice removing different components, Make sure you have the right nozzle for the job you are doing and don't go putting the temp to 480 just because it doesn't seem like its working, pre warm the board first on a low setting, bring it up a bit then settle at the point the solder will become molten. Use a tiny bit of solder on top of an IC and when it becomes soft you know you are nearing the temp you need.

Most is just practice... I can actually remove a BGA, reball and flow with just hot air now (good flux is a must though)

      Have fun and good luck

check this out. This is what I use for removing smd parts. Make the job a lot easier.

there is a video showing how it works.

if you wanna desolder from a multi layer board you need to use a preheater
Just cook it! It's already broken.

You can preheat with the station, takes a while though
