What's Dealextreme up to again? Panny FL for sale??

I know they were caught selling fake nichicons before on their site but they are doing it again and this time with panasonic capacitors

Or maybe they are genuine ones? I know some products made by japanese companies that sell on DX. Someone with an ESR meter should buy these and test them. Pictures do seem genuine sure enough. Also a 20 pack for 3.30$ LOL

They look real, but the red date codes are very old, so they would have to be from before 2005.

When I see caps on DealExtreme, my first thought is

Fool me once, shame on you
Fool me twice, shame on me

For USA citizens, there is no need to shop on ebay when digikey, badcaps.net, mouser, exist.

For other countries trying to save on shipping costs, I can see the potential appeal, but there have been other legit ebay cap sellers mentioned here on this forum.

Does anyone know what FL is equivalent to? It would be nice if there was some sort of reference...

FJ = MBZ
FL = ?
FJS = ?

I thought I also saw FJZ or FLZ once but I can't be sure...

FJ, FJS, FJZ, and all other FJ variants = MBZ
FL = MCZ

I'm not too sure... It has been stated here before that FL is in between MBZ and MCZ. Also, while there is a leaked FJ datasheet, no one has been able to find FJS/FJZ FL datasheets, so the only way to know would be to measure the ESR. Also, did Panasonic ever come out with an equivalent to MFZ/HZ?

I think FL is indeed equivalent to MCZ. I often see them used interchangeably on Xbox 360s, along with Nichicon HNs and very very rarely Sanyo WGs.

I'm not 100% sure these Panny FLs on dealextreme are genuine, though. Have a look at the bung on one of the caps in the 4th picture - it's flat... and Panasonic doesn't use flat bungs like that.

I have a few legit 1800uf 6.3V FL caps with the exact same bung (Topcat sent it to me, I am pretty sure his stock is legit).

Mine has a 30IVUK Datecode... Not standard by any means though. Could someone clue me in as to how one translates Panny codes?

Panny always use flat bungs on their 8mm and smaller caps. 10mm and larger get the other kind.

Well RD's Pannies and the ones on DX look identical so can't really be sure if they are genuine. Do any of the crap manufacturers use a T vent as the one on the Panasonics?

Mucon is another one. I've also seen teapo do it on rare occasions. I think there might be a post about a teapo with a T-vent on here somewhere.

Good thing that you mentioned this. Don't know why, but up to this point I have always been left with the impression that all Panasonic caps have the elaborate bung regardless of the size. I was wrong, though. I just checked some in my Panasonic cap stash, and the 8 mm diameter and smaller ones do indeed have flat bungs (had a few 8 mm FJS ones as well as a bunch of old 85C general purpose ones 8 mm and smaller).

How do you verify if caps are real or fake when they look 100% real and measure OK for capacitance and ESR? Are there any life tests that can be done in less than several hundred hours?

You can disassemble them (destructive process) and look at the guts.
