Hello There, Im new with a question

    Hi there,
Ive found this site through some research on badcaps.
Ive got an old Abit SE6 lying around with crusty caps on it.
Id like to recap it: A. because id like to use it for an ftp server with some old components lying around.
    B. I want to practice recapping, and this board has got plenty.
My question is, what caps are available, from where? for this board.
    It currently has 20x Jackon 1500uf 6.3v 8mmx16mm 105.C
Ive read that these buggers were the original cause of many failures.
My second question refers to my current system, as a rule of thumb when overclocking, what would you recommend for replacing caps in high heat systems, more capacitance, higher voltage, higher running temps????
My third question is, i have an old Radeon 9700 Pro that is acting up, when i boot the display is corrupted, and when i install drivers it fails.
Could this be badcaps, they all look ok, and are of good quality (Rubycon 470uf 10v ZA), or has anyone had any experience with graphic cards.

    Thanks guys, chat soon

here are the links for uk suppliers

Farnell for Panasonic FC, Rubycon ZL / RS for Panasonic FC, FM
Digikey (USA) for Chemicon, Nichicon, Panasonic FM

    United Kingdom - Digikey - http://uk.digikey.com/
    United Kingdom - Farnell - http://uk.farnell.com/
    United Kingdom - RS Components - http://rswww.com/
    RS Components - Pansonic FC
    RS Components - Panasonic FM

also Elfa (sweden) for Sanyo MV-WX
    http://www.elfa.se/en/

    check the widths available though

are you going to be putting it in a 1U rack case or something? i think 105oC good caps would be fine really. i would be more worried about hard disk cooling in a server.

      Hi again,
Well ive finally got round to snagging up a soldering iron.

Now im shopping for some tools,
      Any ideas on:
      1. good solder sucker
      2. Decent solder

Ive found some silverline stuff on ebay:

any solder sucker is fine, not for using on the holes though, might damage them with that. its useful for picking up excessive gobs of solder from leads, or removing connectors. i have started not locking it but just pushing the lever down half way to get just adequate pressure

you definitely need some micro wire cutters

any decent brand of solder is fine. i am using alpha-fry 60/40 0.8mm 2.2% flux. It is a roll of 0.5kg (recommended to not get a little 100g reel cos they take the piss with the prices) i paid 13 euro

need some flux-off spray and normal cotton buds

need dental pick or sewing needle.

I've found that most sewing needles are nickel plated and will stick in the hole. By chance and some luck I discovered that sewing machine needles are usually made of stainless steel. I just cut off the top with the eye, and screwed it in a piece of electrical block. Works like a charm

interesting. i will check those out. does your needle remain completely clean? here is mine, i have used them a lot. milward brand, no idea what the plating is.

this one i use the most, it is about the same size as a cap lead

That looks good willawake. I use the stainless picks and I have a Stanley Tool screw driver kit, it has an awl in it that I also use, works pretty good. No pic to share though.

Yes, my needle comes through completely clean. It's a sewing machine needle of the Falk brand. All the sewing needles I've tried has been sticking either directly, or after a few holes poked through.
I've done some research, and even found a webpage done by a woman who has nickel allergy, and she complained of the impossible task of finding nickel free sewing needles.

thanks so much fellas, ive been looking around and found a solder sucker, some neddles and ive yet to decide on solder and flux.
i found a nice micro flux applicator pen, anyone ever used these before.
its designed for pcb's etc made by trace technologies.
Also, what UK retailer is recommended for good products?

                  Thanks in advance
