Hi.
I bought a defect laptop for training porpus (maiboard troubleshooting /repair etc).
As advertised by the seller it turns on, fan spin but no display.
First thing i did was disconnect anything (ribbon cables) that could eventually cause the display not to work.
Still no display, not even via hdmi.
But after removing display cable off the mainboard it worked "perfectly" fine via hdmi.
So i installed a spare ssd and installed win10 without any issues.
With all the drivers installed via win update and lenovo vantage i went back to bios...

by speaktorobI've already had a little help at r/GPUrepair to get me here. (kudos /u/khoavd83 ✊)
At this point I'm trying to figure out if the GPU is a dead duck or not, but I don't have a thermal camera to perform the proper test. I tried the iso alcohol evaporation technique but it was inconclusive. Anything else I can try?
The history of the card:
Bought second hand, cleaned it up. Tried to make a fan mod with some noctua A9x14's. Got the wiring right -- at first -- but had problems getting the fans to fire up. When probing the fan header for voltages, I shorted...Today, 03:43 AM -
by speaktorobI have the boardview as a CAD file (I've shared it in the sticky). But without the schematic I'm blind to figuring out what values any of the components should be showing. Trying to track down a low 1.8V resistance (yes, I'm in denial).

They are from a DCC railroad decoder.
I am "almost certain" that O48A might be a N-Channel mosfet, and O37I a P-Channel mosfet...........however, not able to find them with these references.
Thanks in advance for any hint.

by AndreasbestHello.
I received a T14s Gen1 ( NM-C891 motherboard ) that is completely dead, no indication of life at all.
I tried hard reset without RTC battery and short both pins of it for 1 minute but no luck.
Since it's type C connector i have no idea what to measure or where to inject voltage, so any advice are welcomed
Thank you in advance!

by Brendon@aaCan anyone point me to a review or suggest a good microscope or trinocular for a semi serious tech getting into SMD?
have been watching Richard from Learn Electronics Repair and he recommended a trinocular simulfocal from Amazon
I also saw a review from a guy that had his meter (think it was a fluke) display in his microscope lenses
any tips appreciated !...Today, 02:35 AM -
by Brendon@aaHi there - looking for a good mixed bag of mosfets to get started with and keep in my kit - there are several on Ali express - can anyone recommend a good mixed bag from there or anywhere else - I am doing all sorts of electronic repairs at a repair cafe thanks largely to Richard from “Learning Electronics Repair” videos
Some relevant repairs to date where I’ve needed Fets are DC DC chargers, power supplies, (lots of plug packs) wind turbine controllers,
thanks in advance ...Today, 02:30 AM -
by Maxpower3Hello everyone.
Here is the bypass solution for several Lenovo ECs.
This has worked on many ECs.
Only works if password is contained in EC
I succeeded on many models

by mikay786Just trying to fix this old Alienware m14x laptop.
found a shorted capacitor and a shorted mosfet on the input mosfet pair.
im i newish to this and was wondering why you almost always have a pair of identical mosfets on in the input? They both do the same thing so what the point?
also on a side note i am eager to test laptop since no short now, is there a way to bypass the 2nd mosfet for a temporary solution until replacement arrives?...Yesterday, 06:51 PM
