MSI MegaPC, (ms-6760 ver 1)

No bad caps, but I'd just thought I'd post this just pointlessly to commend MSI this once, it seems to use Rubycon and what might be Panasonic caps in my PC

Which is awesome since I expected them to be trash caps like a lot of MSI boards. It still doesn't make much more confident about buying a new MSI board, especiall after hearing other stories.

Hail Rubycon and Panasonic!! Good to see MSI finally opened their eyes!! Lets just hope that they're not blind, now that their eyes are open!!

That's what it looked like anyway, I'm fairly sure.

It was just playing up a lot the other day and I thought I'd open it up (it's a fiddly tiny little thing) and thought I'd look at the caps, and they looked good to me.

But hey, they might have just used them in this PC because they're in such a small space and get hot, cheap ones would probably fail in an instant.

I'm taking it to a LAN party in a bit, if someone has a digital camera there and I remember, sure, I'll do that.

I can't do it right now because I gave my digital camera to my girlfriend cos she's gone on holiday.

those tiny pc's can be a blast furnace inside.
i guess they figured out that if the crap caps dont last in a normal pc that none of the sff ones would survive the warrenty period.

Oh to look back at old posts, I never did take the pics, and I don't have a girlfriend anymore.

But the PC still works fine, I keep it on around the clock, 2 graphics cards jammed into a sff PC is pretty hardcore.

... and I never did get my digital camera back, I let her keep it after we broke up, so I'm screwed. All I've got is the camera on my phone, which isn't too useful.

But yeah, point remains, it's an MSI PC, MSI board, and it had Rubycon and Panasonic caps, well, you couldn't ask for more.

I still won't buy MSI in future, but I guess this was a lucky one off.

I have a MSI MS-6760 board out of the Mega 651 and it has some Ruycon caps and several "KZG" caps. I don't have the tools at this time since downsizing home and my ham shack went bye-bye. But I think I will send this to get re-capped. The system worked fine for two years and then would not post or even show signs of power. The CPU,Ram,and PSU checked out good on a friends MS-6760 board. So I pulled the board and notices this sticky stuff on the bottom of the board right under the 1500uF 6.3 volt KZG and the solder joints on this cap was cold and the top of it was bulged.

I also have a MS6760 on a MegaPC and its kinda interesting that it to suddenly stopped working.
Were you able to get the board working by changing the 1500uF cap?

I can see only one KZG cap (1500uF/6.3V) its marked on the silkscreen as EC34 (is this the same one you had a problem with?)

I don't seem to see any obvious damage on that cap on my board though, althought I havn't been able to flip the board over (its a big pain to remove the section of the MB thats attached to the rear panel)

I did not have any problems removing the motherboard from the case. I can tell you that you just about have to take ever screw out of it that you see. You also have to remove the black heat sink retainers that hold the board down. I sent my board to get recapped and I am waiting to see the out come. I can just about bet its the caps since two of them were starting to ooze and swell. I did find a place in the UK that sells the mb's for $155. but that is pretty steep and figure the recap will take care of repair. I sent in the MB with front and rear panel circuit boards, cpu, and ram. So, wait and I will give you the results.
