I am new to all of this and only carry a basic knowledge of electronics, i need help, please you guys are like genuises. So i have a 42 inch philips lcd tv that when plugged in makes a chirping sound from the left rear of tv (facing back of tv) and when i unplug it it kinda dies away it doesnt just stop immediately, anyways i tried to take the back off but apparently its attached to the base and i need a allen key, which i dont have so i cant post pics yet but i was hoping for some insight into what it could possibly be, over the past few weeks its been kinda turning on and off when it feels like it and then it just died, i dont have any power light or any light that i can see at all for that matter, please help!

I think you may need a star screwdriver not an allen.
    model# and pics help.
when you get the back off look over power supply board for bulged capacitors, they are bad.
not all bad cap are bulged but it is a good place to start. I fixed a similar tv with just caps and it works fine. If you research problems with the tv usually its bad capacitors, diodes and/or mosfets in the power supply(depending on the model).
search the forum for your model you should find something.

As for me, I am no genius, but some of the guys here are and they give excelent help.

it very may well be a star that i need, this tv is pissing me off, lol. i know the people on here are very good at what they do.the tv model # is 42PFL5432D/37
As soon as i can figure out a way to get the back of the tv off i will put up pics, how much are these items to purchase to make a repair, better yet, since it makes the chirping noise, determining the exact location when the back of tv is off should not be difficult, correct? couldnt i just throw it in the back seat and go to an electronic repair store and ask them to have a looksie? im no slouch when it comes to basic knowledge and quick learning, but i just dont even know how to test or analyze or what to use to do it. i just want my tv back!!

It is a Torx driver you need, most hardware stores sell them.

thank you for that, i will find one and purchase it, i just spoke at length with tv repair shops across city, they all want around 200 to fix and want 100 just to look at it, not cool.

if i get parts as we go along, can you guys help me fix it? I have basic tools, i even have soldering gun and solder.

Yes, they are great on here.
Do NOT touch heatsinks when testing for voltages as they may be LIVE!

The chirp is probly from the large transformer but it is probly good.
If you have bad caps you can buy this to try instead of looking each one up. You pay more but save time if your an amateur like me. I have used this seller and this kit.

Otherwise there are repair services on ebay for about $100 if you send them your board.

Philips HTS8000 home cinema noise problem
                by courtcircuit
                Hello

I have since a long time a Philips HTS8010S/01 which has been old but was doing the job.

Since a few days, it starts by making a weird "static" nois when switches on for a few seconds to a minute and then works like a charm.
Noise loudly outputs from the 3 channels, even if no signal is sent by the controler.DVD to the subwoofer/amp unit.

I was thinking of a soldering that was starting to be damaged and that was only doing the job after a few seconds of heating, most probbaly on the power board
                Removed each of tyhe boards

PLP-60-48 Single Output LED Power Supply - "chirping" noise
                by tester001
                Dear Badcaps forum members,

Hope that you are all well!
I am a newbie on a mission to figure out the cause of the PSU making a "chirping" noise:

Having searched for this symptom online I have found some indication that failed capacitors may be an issue. To help with the troubleshooting, I have tried to isolate the problem and disconnected the PSU from the rest of the device - the chirping remained.
I have then found that the whole PSU (apart from a small add-on board) can be replaced, and there is even a datasheet for it: https://cdn.badc...

Removing electrical noise introduced by fan
                by tony359
                Hi all,

I am working on a sound processor, it tends to overheat so I fitted a fan inside. The fan is connected to the +15V of the PSU via a DC-DC converter based on the LM2596 to reduce the voltage to around 10.5V.

Unfortunately the analogue circuitry is picking up the noise from the fan in two ways:
                1. The fan is close to the analogue section, the motor itself gets into the outputs so I'll have to move it somewhere else
                2. Even with the fan running outside of the case, there is still some noise which is clearly going back to the processor via power line....

                Philips 42pfl5603d Noise
                by Cabbar
Hi! For almost a year now, a 13 years old Philips 42pfl5603d LED TV has been making high-pitched and loud noises from the standby light's back location (right bottom) when it's turned on for the first 5-10 mins. It is only connected to a laptop via HDMI.

During that initial time, the noise flactuates if the screen changes and lighter colors seem to increase both the pitch and the loudness. After approximately 10 mins, the sound turns into a weak buzz, and if I turn it off and back on, it's as if it has no issues.

When the problem first began, if I turned it off and on...

                Hey All!

Long time forum member here with a problematic laptop issue!

I got a RZ09-0196 with a bloated battery (still worked and charged fine) I pulled the old cell pack out and installed a new cell pack in its place.

The laptop would not power on with the new battery installed without the power supply being plugged in.

When booting into Win10 (all up to date BTW) I saw the battery icon with 49% plugged in not charging.

TL;Dr version, old battery worked, charged but was bloated, installed a new non OEM replacement, laptop/windows...
