    Samsung T220HD Recap

    Hello!
Stumbled onto this forum and have been loving the information available.

I had a 40" Samsung needing to be recapped last summer and I completed it successfully. It got me hooked.

I now have a T220HD that for sure needed to be recapped because I saw bulging caps on the power board. I replaced the group of three 1000uf caps and the one 2200uf with caps that had a slight increase in voltage. After replacing, it still behaves like it did before, which is that it powers on but the screen remains dark. It DID flicker my PC's desktop very clearly for a half second, which gives me hope.

I will post pictures tonight, but I thought maybe someone might have some insight before then.

    Thanks for any help!

    As promised, pictures.

Turns on, power led lights, but no picture. Image 3 and 4 are before I replaced the caps.

It sounds like you getting a "2 seconds to black" symptom. Do you hear a faint hiss after it shows the brief image?

No I did not. Any way to test that without reassembling the whole display?

EDIT: Double checked caps I bought from Digikey, all 4 were Panasonic.

If there is a brief flicker all the time, then I would see if the mosfets are shorted (circled in red).

If there was a brief flicker and nothing at all now, then check the fuse (circled in yellow).

I am a beginner with these types of things. I assume using a multimeter to test, just on the continuity setting? And would I have to take it off the board to test it? Thanks for your help!

EDIT: I tested it on the board and got a tone when testing.

Recheck your fuse and additionally test the mosfet. Instructions in the appropriate section at

Firstly, my multimeter is this model:
                http://www.iequus.com/Product/3310/H...MM-(10-MegOhm)

Secondly, I think this is the datasheet for the MOSFET's in question:
                http://www.datasheetdir.com/AP4506GEH+download

                Finally:
                Fuse = 0.4 ohms (steady)
MOSFET = 1 on far left side for all connections. Is this right?

                  1) Both the above readings suggest the components are good.

                  2) On connector CN602S, there are 9 wires. Next to the 9 wires is a legend.

                  3) Plug in your monitor and power it on.

                  4) Put your multimeter on 20V DC.

                  5) Put your black probe on a ground screw that is right next to the 9 pin connector. This is your ground. Leave the black probe on the ground screw the entire time.

                  6) Put your red probe on each of the 9 pins.

                  7) Report your readings with the legend like so

                  pin 1 BO - I get 3.30V
                  pin 2 14.5V - I get 14.61 V

                  etc

Again, because I'm new to this, how do I go about turning on the power board without reassembling the monitor? Or is there something I'm not getting about this procedure? Thanks for your help.

Reassemble and connect all the boards. Just don't put the back cover on. Hit power button and take measurements.

How is that looking? Took me a minute to get that thing powered while semi-put together. Let me know, thanks!!

                          1) BO IM = backlight on, inverter module. It should be > 0V which it is. The main board generates this signal to tell the backlights to come on.

                          2) Pin 2 is the voltage to the inverter module and it looks good.

                          3) Pin 6 and 7 provide power to the main board and it looks good.

                          4) AD IM is adjust dimness inverter module. At 0V it is good.

                          5) I'm not sure what SW stands for so I'm not 100% sure if 4.79V is good or not, but let's assume it is good for now.

                            Next tests.

                            1) Power off and unplug lcd. Wait 5 minutes.

                            2) Put your multimeter to 2K ohms.

                            3) Measure the resistance between the 2 yellow dots. Report reading.

                            4) Do the same for the 2 red dots. Report reading.

                            5) Put your multimeter to 20M ohms.

                            6) Measure the resistance of the blue circled caps. The blue caps will have 2 legs each. Measure the resistance between those 2 legs. You should have 4 readings, one for each blue cap.

                                    1. I read two numbers, but I believe this is the part number: 4506GEH (other number is 820038)

                                    2. S1,G1 | S1,D1 | G1,D1 | S2,G2 | S2,D2 | G2,D2 -- the one thing that was weird was that it appears the D1 and D2 were one large combined contact. There was no distinction between the two that I could tell.
