Default DVB recorder box crap

There seems 2 be tons of these crap boxes failing..whats causing them 2 fail?
Any1 here worked on 1..looking at a neighbours 25008DTRADG which has fail displayed & nowt works on remote etc..done the unplug wait 5secs then hold power button at front for 5 secs while pugging it in..it show pls wait then FAIL is displayed..any 1 got any..thx

HDD failure - is it spinning up, got a spare drive to test?

Hi tom..yeah ive a spare sata hdd..shall i just format it then stick it in the box?..could i use hdd regenerater to check & fix bad sectors..thx

Worth a shot, as far as I know these things use a custom file system though; if you install a blank disk it may pop up with a message asking you to format.

Its a WD hdd installed..i thought these where good hdds..anyways i will see how it goes

installed spare hdd & the lcd display lit up then pls wait then fail..with original hdd lcd not lit up so im gonna put hdd in my pc & check for & repair bad sectors & see how that goes

Check all supply voltages. There should be 12V and 5V for HDD, and possibly other supplies e.g. 3.3V or 1.8V.

No bad sectors found..the hdd has 3 partitions 2 must be file systems & 232gb for storage..checked voltages & all seems to be good so stumped again..this will probably be heading for the
unless i could figure out how to recover them 2 file partions & copy them on another hdd..but how far do you go

Was going over psu 16PW810S when checking the zenor diodes D22 has continuity both ways..thats wrong yeah?..the diode has a marking of 48 on it..could this be the culprit..thx
Tested fine after measuring again..nevermind put it away & get sum kip

Oh god it's a Vestel PVR! Their TVs are bad enough! Pull the zeners and test.

Neighbour has now given me this as i cant get it working as yet..any of you guys recommend a good PVR thats gonna last..thx

Some PVRs have poorly designed power supplies, of which can be fatal to connected hard drives if certain rails are not monitored and a critical rail goes out of tolerance - I saw that happen to a Thomson DTR6000AU unit.

Ive figured out this set is a Vestel T845 Top Up TV..so from doing allot of research im gonna try a software upgrade with a usb r232..ordered 1 from ebay & ive got the bin file so fingers crossed it might be saved from the

Great to hear. I had a Freesat HD box with the same issue but I just sold it on, should try flashing it next time.

I joined digital spy forum & got all info needed there..tom would u have a gander at my neon tv when youve settled at uni..if get it fixed split it when sold?..or pay u 4 ur time..thx

We'll have to see how much time I have available, possibly have to be over the weekend. I arrive 18th Sep, but teaching starts on the 24th. I'll only bring my scope and meter, not much else.
