Default Sharpness on VGA with LCD TV

I have a Bush LT24M3 which I have just repaired. Nice 24" 1080p monitor/LCD TV. Natively limits itself to 1440x900 but I used xrandr to create a 1920x1080 mode and it accepts it fine. Except for one thing. The damn sharpness control on VGA is set to 60%, so everything has a halo around it. I know it's not bandwidth limiting because it occurs in both X and Y. I'm trying to find a way to disable the sharpness but I can't. The TV is a rebadged Haier as far as I can tell - does anyone know what the service code for Haier TVs is?

Thanks.
