Time for another rant. The subject of this one... Facebook.

I used to like the site, till it became completely infested with advertising and personal information harvesting apps which constantly bombard me with requests for bullshit I could give a flying flippity fuck less about. Hell things have degenerated to the point where I wonder if my eyes are going to begin spontaneously bleeding from all the app generated posts on my newsfeed. And don't even get me going on the wall photobombers. Those are the people that go to sites like my someecards.com or whatever and repost all those pics with the catchy phrases on them. Ok maybe one or two per day can be cute, but 20 of the fucking things in one day is just too much. At least I haven't caught "it" yet.

I just ignore them... All I do on FB anymore is comment on stuff, chat with friends abroad, and share pics... all of the non-default apps I'd never touch; they are porrly written and require you to whore yourself to your friends to win.

I don't really get the hatred of the timeline. I switched to it early on... Just because you have it doesn't mean you have to create an event for every time you took a shit.

i had the best laugh of the year when they went public. watched it live on the stock ticker and i was literally on the floor laughing.
maybe it was meant to happen that way, every child can see how they lack a business plan. why anyone in their right mind would invest in that is completely beyond my imagination. i'm not sorry for all the fools that got suckered into it.

and personally, i won't touch FB. ever.

I personally think facebook has the potential for becoming somewhat valuable one day provided the CEO and board get their heads out of their asses. Heck I would even buy stock in FB, but only after it totally goes into the dumpster and I could pick it up for beans.

obviously it has some value, but to think that FB with its 3000 employees and a non-existent business plan should have a market capital of ~100bn, more than double that of GM (say about their cars what you want) with 200.000 employees and a real product, is outright INSANE.

facebook is blocked on every router I own. If cispa passes, facebook will be boycotted far more openly. The only thing that came out of facebook going public was more spam and advertising on their already bloated site. This whole 'social networking' fad I think is finally passing.....morons.

I use FB as a communication tool because unfortunately gen Y people don't read emails nor pick up the phone... well at least the people I know anyway.

IPOs in general have underperformed the overall stock market.

I could never understand how a nothing company could be worth a lot more than a real company, so I didn't profit from the Internet-led stock craze of the late 1990s. OTOH that also meant I missed the Internet-led stock crash of 2000-2003.
