Panasonic FC would be a closer match to the original cap specs.

Ripple = 730, esr = 90 mOhm according to digikey.

would the fm be not better with the higher ripple and lower esr?,i only say beacause ive done some research on all these great pages of badcaps and seem to get mixed opinions on lowering esr can be bad for a board?,its all rather confusing!,yet most seem to recommend the fm series,?,help!

fc < fm <= fr .. fr has bit higher esr than fm but it's longer life.

In general lower esr is better but in some rare cases, going to very low esr when the original caps were average esr can hurt...

I'd say either ones would be Ok, make sure you have 10mm diameter room on the board for the fm series if you choose that.

PCBONEZ explains it at

In the LCD and TV forum, we tend to recommend Panasonic FR, FM, and FC from digikey. Sometimes we "blanket" recommend FM because sometimes we cannot find any info on the original cap.

Other times, we already know FM is a good replacement for x, y, and z because of previous homework/research.

that was excellent reading retiredcaps i never saw that page!,and also thanx to mariushm i seem to understand a little better now,i am the type to try and match specs on everything when repairing,it just gets a little confusing hearing different bits of advice and not knowing what to actually go with,id like to get an idea ,ie,what grade of caps for a psu, what grade for a av board, and grade for inverter boards, and try to stick with one manufacturer,ie panasonic fm and fc would be great!,that narrows the worry down to just 2 grades of caps, instead of 100's !,and then match to the specs of the origonal cap that needs to be replaced, god my head hurts now,

I usually pick Panasonic FM, FR and Nichicon HM, HN, HZ (but this one is harder to find) - both are reputable companies and these series have reasonably low ESR and high enough ripple.

Another good capacitor series imho is the United Chemi Con KZE series and I also like Rubycon (RX series for example is rated for 130c) but this last brand is less recommended on this forum because the well known digikey.com online store doesn't stock them. Farnell (Europe seller) does and I use it.

They're almost always better on paper than random brands of capacitors.

In just some cases, I have to look up alternatives due to the diameter of the capacitors - the Panasonic caps tend to be larger in diameter than the original capacitors.
